One of the dangers of showing my stuff to my mother is the fact that she's still terribly uptight about sex. I took the explicit bit out of Cadith/Aaron and sent it off to her, since I figured she deserved to get to read what I've been blithering about almost non-stop for the last four or five days.
Her main comment? "You could get rid of all the lust and it'd be a great story, because that doesn't really add anything to it."
I haven't told her that the lust is one of the two requirements of the call for submissions. That and actual, y'know, sex. She skipped a lot of the bit where Cadith and Aaron are in Aaron's bed, which is her perogative, but I wanted to tell her "you're missing great dialogue! Don't skip it!"
One of the other things she said was that it'd make a great YA/Juvie series, which it would. The YA world needs more well-written (and, as my mother said, 'classy') series that don't involve vampires, sparkly or not. Also, I'd love to write something that lit people's imaginations with the idea of exploring just how friendly Cadith and Aaron are; even if I didn't necessarily read any of it it'd be fun to know that people picked up on the subtle hints.
