the saddest is a house without books. Or a house whose books are all diet books and how this thing or that is The Miracle Cure Of The Century!
The solution is obvious but expensive: I think I need a Kindle. I seriously can't take all of my books with me when I travel/house-sit, and I always manage to end up looking after creatures with owners that don't seem to read (or only read books that I couldn't care less about). *Pokes Amazon* Ish. Five hundred dollars for the big one, because I know I'd probably get frustrated with the smaller one. Five hundred dollars is fifty hours of work at ten dollars an hour; or at my usual rate of house-sitting... 25 days. (Although when we're talking that length of time, I generally charge 100/week.)
And then to put books on it is more, because you have to pay for them and their download separately (right? 'cause bandwidth isn't free, much as I wish it were). In addition to that, I'm willing to bet you a dollar that I wouldn't even be able to use the download anywhere feature because I live in Nowhere, Slightly To The Left Of Mars, Alaska. *Pokes their coverage thing, trying to get it to do something besides show the lower 48*
Well, call the newspapers! What do you know, not only do they claim that AK gets covered by their network, they say that my neck of the woods even gets the orange high-speed EVDO stuff! (I've never known what EVDO stands for. All I can come up with is Extra-Virgin Download Oil, and I'm pretty sure that's NOT it. Hm. Oh, Evolution Data Only, I get it. Thanks, Google!)
And I'm still not sure if I even want to give Amazon money. I'm more inclined to give -them- my money than, say, EA, though.
