Pick-A-Prompt #99 - Image
Ryan stared blankly at his siblings for a long moment as they stood around his living room. "I think I still need to be drunk to understand this story..." he said.
"Really?" Kevin commented, exasperated.
"Okay, fine, I need to be drunk to deal with hearing it! I don't wanna know about Nora's half naked hijinks! I had enough of that with my ma growing up," Ryan replied. "Trust me, as long as she wasn't wearing a thong and a see through tank top? I can beat your trauma."
"Ew," Justin said. "Why would you put that image in our heads?"
Ryan shrugged. "Why would you guys think I wanna hear about Nora's half naked hi-jinks first thing in the morning?" he countered. "Seriously, I..."
"Ry?" a woman's voice called from the other room and Ryan blushed slightly.
"Did we interrupt your half naked hi-jinks?" Justin asked, trying not to laugh.
"No half about it," Ryan countered. "And I swear to god if you don't get out now? I will tell Nora that you showed up to talk to me about her sex life. And then I will tell you every little bit of things you three have told me about your sex lives."
"We're leaving," Kevin agreed quickly.
"Wait, you've told him about your sex life?" Sarah asked him, trying not to laugh.
"Not in detail!" Kevin protested.
"Is everything okay?"
The Walkers turned to look at the petite brunette, dressed only in what had to be on of Ryan's t-shirts, standing in the doorway to the bedroom. "We we're just leaving," Justin said before turning to give Ryan an impressed look and a not so subtle thumbs up.
"You're three of the siblings, aren't you?" the girl asked with a smile. "Let me guess... Sarah, Kevin and Justin?"
"How'd you know?" Sarah said.
"Well, you were an easy guess, because I'd have to be a complete idiot who lives under a rock to not know what Kitty looks like. And I figured he must be Kevin because he was not checking me out, and all guys check me out unless they're gay. As for Justin... I took a guess. He looks younger than both of you, and I know Tommy is older. But it's nice to meet you."
"They were leaving," Ryan repeated.
""It's nice to meet you, too," Sarah said, ignoring him. "How long have you and Ryan been... together?"
"A few months," the girl replied. "Oh god, so rude of me. I'm Brooke."
"What a lovely name," Sarah said.
"Now that you've been introduced, you can leave," Ryan said pointedly.
"Is everything okay?" Brooke asked. "I can go if you need to talk to Ryan about family stuff."
"It's fine, nothing that is any of anybody's business but the one Walker involved in it," Ryan said. "Just like this."
"Are you embarrassed by me?" Brooke asked, trying to look angry but failing to hide her smile.
"No," Ryan said. "But they are hugely embarrassing," he added. "They came to ask for my POV about their mom having sex."
"Seriously?" Brooke asked. "I am way too sober for that kind of conversation."
"Yeah. I told them if they go blabbing to everyone about my sex life, I will blab to everyone about theirs. Like who Justin is dating? Or how Sarah accidentally told me about her night with Luc because of you guys and your ridiculous habit of having more than one sibling on separate lines? Or Kevin and Scotty's... issues?"
Brooke put a hand over her mouth to muffle her laugh, bur failed to keep it in. "I'm sorry," she told them.
There was a knock on the door, which then eased open. "Ryan? I wanted to see if... what are all of you doing here?" Nora asked her kids.
"We... uh..." Justin began.
Brooke looked between everyone, and took pity on Ryan who had his face in his hands as he shook his head. "You must be Nora! Ryan's told me so much about you and how great you were to him when he first met all of you!" she said as she confidently crossed the room to offer her hand. "I'm Brooke, Ryan's girlfriend."
"Ryan has a girlfriend?" Nora asked, surprised.
"You know him, he gets all secretive and squirrelly and for reasons unknown to like everyone, doubts his own worth, and gets convinced things won't work out for him..."
"You're not making anything better, Brooke."
"Who said that was my goal?" Brooke replied with a grin. "You have told no one about me, I'm hurt, and I'm lashing out by embarrassing you."
"You're evil," Ryan told her.
"I know," Brooke replied with a cheerful smile. "But it is really nice to meet you, Mrs. Walker. I know Ryan really appreciates having you in his life."
"Well I love having him in mine," Nora replied. "I feel like he's my own," she added, looking over at Ryan, who smiled in return. "Which is why I'm hurt he didn't bring you over to dinner to meet us. You should come tonight! It's my birthday and everyone and their significant others will be there."
"I'd love to," Brooke said. "Is there anything I can bring? Besides a gift I mean?"
"Oh no, you don't need to bring anything, not even a gift, it's so last minute..."
"Mrs. Walker, if there's one thing I can do very well in a crunch? It's shop," Brooke said. "I'll be there. Assuming Ryan doesn't object?" she added.
"No, I want you to meet everybody," Ryan replied.
"Great!" Nora said cheerfully. "Oh, Ryan, I came by to ask if you heard back from Kirsten, Summer and Kaitlin about whether they were coming?"
"Yeah, they'll be there," Ryan told her. "I thought you were gonna pass that along, Justin?" he added.
"Slipped my mind," Justin said.
"Uh-huh," Ryan said.
