Yup, 2 New Cop Fandoms...
Watching Southland. I love it. Gonna suck that I'll have to watch it online because of it being opposite Supernatural, but I'll live...
I wanna write an AU where Ben Sherman IS Ryan Atwood. Like Ryan changed his named for one reason or another and became Sherman to stay safe. See, if you play on the idea that the guy Sherman and Cooper arrested played by Taylor Handley is in fact Oliver Trask and think about what he said (ignoring the fact that he called Sherman 'Ben'... lol) it makes perfect sense! Oliver is enough of an ass to think he can do anything, he's crazy enough to think he could get Ryan to do a favor for him, and the line about hiring Sherman's dad to get him out? Of course Oliver would say that to rile Ryan up!
And when Sherman killed the guy and then the line about "Taking a life is a big deal to me"... it makes me think of how Ryan came so close to killing Volchak, he wanted to, but in the end he knew he wasn't that person, the one who kills somebody. And yet now he jsut did, even though it was lityerally life and death and he had to, and he's thinking that maybe he IS that person...
And the idea comes to me that, in a Ryan-Is-Ben-Sherman universe, at some point something would have to come up where he'd reveal some knowledge of criminal activity that logically some rich kid, like Cooper assumes him to be, wouldn't have any way of knowing, and he winds up admitting who he is to Cooper and it scares the crap out of him to do so because he doesn't wanna end up dead because the wrong person will find out who he really is... and Cooper has a bit mroe respect for Sherman then, knowing the real story...
And the scene in the hospital hall, between Sherman and the girl? Come on! That is so totally Ryan Atwood... lol... being nice... and offering to help if she needs anything... and joking around with her some...
I love the show on it's own merits, and I love Sherman on his own merits, but you gusy know I'm The OC Obsessed... lol...
The other idea I have is that Ben Sherman is an Atwood, like Ryan's twin... but Frank didn't wanna have to deal with TWO babies, so he made Dawn give one up for adoption and that one was Ben Sherman... and then I could still play with the idea of the TH guy in the pilot being Oliver, and he mistook Ben for Ryan (again ignoring him calling Ben by name... lol...) and maybe that's what leeds to the two brothers finding eachother, because maybe instead of saying "Ben, right?" he says something like "Are you still pissed about the Marissa thing, Ryan?" and Ben is slightly shaken because maybe he knows he was adopted and maybe he found out a while back that he had a twin brother who WASN'T given up for adoption, but he couldn't find out anything else...
