AU, obviously. This is about Sophie Rose Cohen as she grows up in my Ryan Atwood/Jess Mariano universe. So, yes, as the warnings say, there's mentions of Ryan having a boyfriend, but it's basically from the POV of like a 4 year-old, and the only reason it's not rated G is because there's some mention bad words and Sophie Rose is so very obviously Ryan's baby sister in this one. Jake Atwood is, of cours,e Frank and Julie's son.
They had been best friends since the moment they met as infants, so no one ever expected Sophie Rose Cohen to give Jake Atwood a bloody nose, least of all Jake and Sophie Rose themselves.
The adults all came running when Jake screamed, though, and they found Sophie Rose standing over him, her hands curled into fists as she glared with a look almost identically to Ryan's pissed off look.
"Sophie Rose Cohen!" Kirsten scolded as she and Julie ran to Jake, making sure the little boy, who was sobbing and holding his nose, was okay.
"Say you're sorry!" Sophie Rose demanded.
"Sophie Rose, you're the one who needs to apologize!" Sandy said from behind her.
"He called Ry a bad word and he better say he's sorry or else!" Sophie Rose said.
"What word?" Julie asked, looking at Jake, who had curled against her.
"A bad, mean, word!" Sophie Rose said. "Say you're sorry, Jake Atwood!"
"Jake?" Julie asked. "What word did you call your brother?"
"Daddy said it first, he said it's what Ry is... I didn't know it was a bad word..." Jake said, still crying. "I didn't know it was bad, Soph!"
"Don't call me that! Only people I like get to call me Soph!" Sophie Rose said.
"I'm sorry," Jake said, his voice coming out a whimper.
"What word?" Julie repeated. Jake whispered in her ear, and her mouth dropped open, then hardened into a thin line. "You are never to use that word again, Jake. Ever. Especially not about your brother!"
"I didn't know it was a bad word! Daddy said it first!"
"That's why I don't like leaving you alone with him," Julie said tensely. "Sophie, honey, I don't think he knew how bad a word it is," she said to the little girl. "You know he loves Ryan as much as you do."
"But that's the word they wrote on Mr. Dave's car!" Sophie said. "And he was really sad and Dr. Steve was really mad and scared and he said only bad people say it! Jake saw it too, just like me!"
"Honey, Jake doesn't read yet, remember?" Julie said. "He didn't know it was the same word." She looked up at Kirsten and Sandy, who's expressions had hardened as they realized what word they were talking about, remembering distinctly when they'd arrived at Dellums Prep, the preschool Sophie Rose went to and been told that someone had left the insults spray painted all over the car of Sophie Rose's favorite teacher at the school, David 'Mr. Dave' Mercer, who's partner, Steven 'Dr. Steve' Edwards, also happened to be Sophie Rose's pediatrician. "He didn't know," she repeated to her friends.
"I'm sorry," Jake said. "I promise, I'll never use it again! I love Ryan, I didn't mean to call him something bad!"
"I'm sorry I hit you," Sophie Rose said. "You wanna play soccer?" she offered, holding out her hand.
"Only if I don't hafta be goalie," Jake agreed, taking her hand and letting her tug him up and towards the little nets set up in the back corner of the yard, the adults betwen them and the pool. "You kick too hard."
"I'll show you how to kick like I do," Sophie Rose promised.
And just like that, all was well again between them, leaving the adults to try and figure out how much of a talk they needed to give their respective children, and in Sandy and Kirsten's case trying to decide between punishing Sophie Rose for hitting, and being proud of her for standing up for Ryan.
The End
Sophie Rose inherited the fists of fury! lol
