"You're late," Brooke said as she walked out of her shuttle and into the hold of the Serenity.
"We ran into a little trouble," Ryan replied. "And it's not my fault your clients are fast on the draw."
"As fast as you are slow," Brooke said coolly.
"Listen, you gorram..." Ryan began, getting annoyed.
"Be nice," Kaitlin said as she passed him on her way to the engine room. "How was your business?" she asked Brooke, looking up.
"Profitable," Brooke replied. "And I found a few things in the market place that I think you might just like."
"I'll stop by when once we're going," Kaitlin said before hurrying off to ready the ship for take off.
"Don't be turning my engineer into one of you," Ryan said, shooting one more glare Brooke's way before heading towards the cockpit to check on his pilot and first officer.
"When we gonna get our cut handed out?" Luke asked as Ryan passed him in the hall.
"Go shine your guns, you'll get it when you get it," Ryan replied. He climbed the small ladder up to the cockpit and leaned in, finding Summer leaning over the pilot's chair while Jess did the pre-flight check. "We almost ready?" Ryan asked.
"Just waiting for Kaitlin to give the clear and port to give us a go," Jess replied. "Unless we're leaving hot again."
"Nah, no one's on our tail right this minute, we can take our time. Just not too much time, now that the Ambassador is back."
"You just fought with Brooke again, didn't you?" Jess asked, smirking.
"Oh shut up," Ryan said, turning away and heading back towards the galley to check on their food supply.
"Just give it up, Cap'n!" Summer called after him, her laughter seemingly following him down to corridoor.
"Captain!"
Ryan halted and turned, fighting his grimace as he looked at his passenger. "What can I do for you?"
Nathan was grinding his teeth, clearly loathe to speak to the man in front of him. "Tell your man with the guns to stay away from my cargo container," he said. "I don't want his filthy hands all over it."
"I'll have a talk with him," Ryan said in his most complacent tone. Which really wasn't all that complacent. He didn't have any use for rich guys like Nathan who thought they could do anything they wanted and say anything they liked.
"Cap'n, we just got a call from Derek," Summer said as she appeared in the hatchway, her face pulled into a grimace of distate at the name of their sometimes employer. "He said something about a job."
The End
Hehe... this came from watching a Firefly marathon on SciFi Channel last night...
Ryan - Malcolm (Pretends to be tough and not care, but loves his crew like family and would die for them in an instant)
Summer - Zoe (Closest friend of our intrepid captain, she served with him during the war, and even though their side lost, she stands by him)
Jess - Wash (The kinda... odd... pilot who is married to the first officer, even though they seem like opposites)
Brooke - Inara (A Companion, trained in the art of sex, who rents one of the Serenity's two shuttles from the captain)
Kaitlin - Kaylee (The smart and somewhat perky engineer who is like a kid sister to the captain, and who wishes he would jsut admit how he feels about the Companion already)
Luke - Jayne (The gun obsessed idiot who'd turn any of them in if he thought he'd make a quick buck... except he does care... he'll shoot you if you tell anyone, though....)
Nathan - Simon (The wealthy passenger who's strangly protective of a cargo container he brought on board with him)
And though there was no appearance...
Lucas - River (Sibling of the passenger above and not entirely sane, not to mention entirely dangerous, they are kept in cryo inside a cargo container)
Ahem... yeah... I DO get some completely insane ideas sometimes... and thanks to these gifts, you guys are getting to see some of them! lol
