that's what you get for being cocky assholes

So this was undoubtedly a horrible football year and, for awhile there, I sat and sulked, thinking that life had simply lost all of its flair because nothing had turned out the way that I expected it to.

Now, let's sketch a brief little outline here. My Cowboys make it to the playoffs. My Packers make it to the playoffs. My Colts make it to the playoffs. And I figured (arrogantly, I admit) that I was going to see all three of those teams finish out the playoffs and I just knew that one of them would make it to the Superbowl, possibly two. So imagine my surprise (and horror) at the fact that two of them were cut quickly and not one of them making it to the big game.

I was pissed. Distraught. Football sucked because it had let me down in a big way and, really, what sunshine was to enter my life now that all of my teams were out? I mean, all I wanted was one of my teams to make it to the Superbowl and/or to see the Patriots get beaten and lose their perfect season. Well, what's this? The Giants are going to the Superbowl? The Giants are going up against the Patriots? (And furthermore, how the fuck did that even happen?) Well, shit ... there goes ANY hope I had for football this season. I mean, it's the freaking Giants. While they may have given the Patriots a run for their money once in the regular season, we have to remember that the Eagles and Ravens also managed to accomplish the same feat and though this feat was a good one, it obviously doesn't necessarily make them a good team.

And then, in this pitiful state of despair and cheering jadedness, the unimaginable happened ... The Giants beat the Patriots to win the Superbowl.

Hol ... ee ... shit.

Now, I'm not a Giants fan but Shaun and I have discussed this a lot and we were pretty sure that the Giants had more fans today than they've probably ever had in their entire career. Let's not shit ourselves, the Patriots may be an amazing football team but they're hated more than Paris Hilton and we all wanted to see that bitch Belichick go down (and bring that jackass Brady with him). As much as I tried not to let myself have hope (because the Eagles/Ravens/Colts games taught me that it was stupid to hope the dynasty could be brought down), I couldn't help myself. Football wise, I'd lost everything else this season and I knew that, occasionally, Manning could be a very good quarterback and the Giants' defense is a force to be reckoned with so maybe, JUST MAYBE, I still had something to hope for.

So I (timidly) hoped and it paid off. The Giants brought the Patriots down. There are very few feelings quite as good as this and some of my disillusionment with this season has been alleviated and I don't even like the Giants! So I will take Manning and his drooling and I will take Burress and his incomprehensible speaking and I will take Madison and his ridiculously huge ego. And the Patriots can suck it with their running up of scores and Brady's infantile poutyness and Belichick's slighting of good, honest coaches.

The Giants beat the Patriots. It doesn't get much better than that ...
