Seriously, that's ... a lot of sharpies.

4th of July is very different in Albuquerque than in Monterey; I suppose this is largly due to the fact that fireworks are legal here. In any case, it was completely awesome to go outside, light fireworks and see this gigantic cloud of continous smoke rolling down the street because like 8 other families are all lighting their own fireworks. So cool. It really does make a difference when everyone around you is into it. It also makes me smile to hear the fireworks going on the day before and the day after the actual 4th ... I just love the child-like enthusiasm and the unwillingness to let go of the holiday spirit and merriment simply because the day isn't correct.

It was also a nice introduction to our neighbors ... they were already in the driveway (we have a three-way driveway) when we went out there and we all talked and watched each others fireworks. After that, they invited us over for pool and alcohol ... when I declined the alcohol on the grounds that I don't drink, T.J (the dad) did the cross sign over me. I thought that rather amusing and Reagan's satanic face danced through my head for the rest of the night. So, we've got awesome neighbors. That's rad.

And today! Oh today! Work was glorious, glorious in that I figured out that I can, in fact, count to 859. And do you know how I know this? Because it was Inventory Day, Part Two and I had to count 859 blue mini Sharpies. WOW. And can I just say ... that was only one color of sharpie and, while the others weren't nearly as bountiful, I also had to count pink, green, orange, yellow, black, red and dark blue sharpies. I think my brain went a little numb ... but I was working with this totally adorable older lady who, like Pam, talks to herself. Seriously, this job is the best thing ever. Well ... minus the sharpies.

holidays, work
