Walk The Line

So, Shaun and I went to go see this opening night. And wow ... it was wonderful. I read one reviewer describe Joaquin Phoenix's performance, saying that he "wore Johnny Cash like a suit". And man ... I mean, he did it beautifully. It was a beautiful movie. And Reese Witherspoon seriously shines as June Carter Cash. She is beautiful and funny and adorable and just ... amazing, really. She can go from glowing with joy to conveying a world of hurt in her eyes, effortlessly. Anyway, the point is, you should go see it. If for no other reason than to see Joaquin Phoenix become Johnny Cash.

Oh, if you do go see it, best scene EVER: "We surrender, we surrender!"

I saw Hotel Rwanda awhile ago but I was just reminded of its greatness as Shaun's watching it right now. Few movies have touched me the way this one does. Seriously, Kate and I were sobbing in the movie theater watching this movie. It's not a tear-jerker, it's a SOB-RIPPER, probably mostly because you know that most everything that you are seeing actually happened. One thing that stuck out for me was a scene where the Hutu soldiers were threatening the UN soldiers. One of the Hutu had a teddy bear on the end of a stick, the implication being that after they had ruthlessly murdered some small child, they had then taken the child's stuffed animal as a trophy to carry around. This movie is heart-breaking.

"I think if people see this footage, they'll say, "Oh, my God, that's horrible". And then they'll go on eating their dinners."
