If there's one thing to be said about the people here at work, it's that they have a sense of humor. Today, we held a change of command ceremony for the product office that maintains the Sentinel Radar system, and to kick off the event, they showed a powerpoint presentation that had "Radar Love" playing over scenes of the Sentinel at work. Those crazy Army people.

One part did make me raise my eyesbrows a bit--halfway through the presentation, slides of September 11th began to come up, reminding us why we're making Sentinels in the first place. Then, they played audio of the President's address to the nation with "Radar Love" still breaking it down in the background. The situation was a bit uncomfortable, but the music ended up being eerily well-timed. It faded just long enough for Pres. Bush to say something about "the FOUNDATION of AMERICA" and then it rocked out again. An awkwardly amusing situation to say the least.

Gah working that ceremony was a pain. Organizing the refreshments, cutting the cake, handing out programs, planning the seating chart for the generals/honored guests... I felt like I had leapt three years back to Neverland (organizing the refreshments, handing out flyers, planning the band order). Ah, the constant stress of setting up and executing big events--how I (don't) miss it. Even so, I found it all worthwhile when I got to swashbuckle a little with the LTC's ceremonial saber. After everything slowed down, the Colonel came around behind the reception table to shake our hands and thank us for helping the ceremony go smoothly, and as soon as he let go of my hand, I realized that three of the knuckles on my right hand had been covered in cake frosting...and then they weren't. Whoops. He was in dress uniform too.

Speaking of dressing up, I wore my new pink and black shirt to the ceremony today. I got it last night (cheap!) and left it out on the couch for Nicole to see when she came home. After I had been peacefully sleeping for about half an hour, she came in without waking me and went to the where the shirt was lying. Suddenly, I heard her exclaim, "Stephanie!" Displeased at being awakened, I responded with my customary, "Mmph?"
"I really like your new yellow and blue shirt!" she said.
"Nicole, it's pink and black," I replied.
*brief pause*
"Why so it is!"
That, my friends, was a classic moment.

The rest of my week looks to be booked solid. I've got a lot of stuff going on, both pleasant and unpleasant (read "dentist appointment"). I'm really excited about the road trip to Birmingham on Friday for the Tattle Tales show!! If anyone wants to catch a ride down to that, let me know! Hey I rhymed. Anyway, I've got room for two (besides me and Ashley). It'll be fun.
