Arafat is dead...

-In the first comment from an Israeli official, Justice Minister Yosef Lapid blamed Arafat for global terrorism and the failure to achieve Middle East peace, but expressed hope of improved relations under new leadership.

``I hated him for the deaths of Israelis. ... I hated him for not allowing the peace process ... to move forward,'' Lapid told Israel Radio.

Said President Bush, on first hearing of Arafat's death: ``The death of Yasser Arafat is a significant moment in Palestinian history. We express our condolences to the Palestinian people. For the Palestinian people, we hope that the future will bring peace and the fulfillment of their aspirations for an independent, democratic Palestine that is at peace with its neighbors,''

I never thought I would be saying such graceful things for the Bush Administration, but at least they have tact. I can't believe the Justice Minister of Israel would abuse and dishonor his chance to use this moment to make things right in this world by commenting on the past mishaps of Arafat and his followers.

If there is to be any hope in this world, let it not rely on their fierce dogmatism nor the ridiculous insinuations of those who speak for us.

We all deserve Peace.
