Posted this last night on FB, but forgot to post it here:

Back in TO, with the Lynxcub back at his home. The train ride back was a little more challenging than the one up there, because there were no other kids in our car this time (on the way up, a mom with two kids a bit younger than the Cub and his brother got on at the first stop north of Toronto, and the kids spent a lot of time playing together). But he still weathered it OK - he's turning out to be a pretty good little traveller. He said he liked going by train better than car or bus, because it was easier to get up and move around.

Me, I'm partly glad to be home, and partly missing the north. Impractical though I know it would be, part of me really wishes I could live up there. Being surrounded by clean air and snow-frosted evergreens, with about 100x as many stars overhead as you can ever see in Toronto, seems like it feeds my soul in ways that I can't really put into words.

And showing the stars to the Lynxcub on the first semi-clear night we had was awesome. He's certainly been out of Toronto before, and in rural areas where there's much less light pollution, but he didn't seem to recall ever having seen all the stars like that before. He was racing back and forth along the deck to look at them from every side, shouting "Wow! Wow! WOW!", so excited he could barely contain himself. From the look of wonder on his face, you'd think we'd just blasted the house off into outer space like a rocket...
