Well, there is nothing to take one's mind off one's woes like a new arrival in the family. My fur-family, that is...
I was at a board meeting this evening for the technology association that for some reason saw fit to elect me vice president a while back, at the president's house. And at one point she looked outside and saw this guy hovering around her doorstep holding something. She went out and saw this mentally disabled man who lived elsewhere in her co-op, holding a tiny kitten. Someone had given it to him and he didn't think he could take care of it. So she ended up bringing it in, with the intent of either finding it a new home or taking it to the Humane Society. Somehow I ended up on kitten-minding duty during the meeting, and by the end of the evening, there seemed little doubt as to where the kitty's new home would be...
I had been thinking for a while now about possibly getting another cat, because Desdemona, my eldest, is 18 and not in terribly good health, as any of you who've been following this journal for a while know. I knew I would get another when her time came, so that Amber wouldn't be alone, but lately I'd been thinking that maybe I should find a new one sooner, so as to ease the transition when Desdemona does pass on. And, well, it looks like the new one found me first!
So, there is a teeny-tiny kitten locked in my bathroom at the moment - she's in there partly so the cats can get used to each other's smell before meeting face to face, and partly because I'm pretty sure she has fleas and I don't want her spreading them to the other cats. Tomorrow I'll take her to the vet and get her checked out, vaccinated, de-fleaed and whatever else she may need. Good thing a client just wired me the second payment for a site I finished today...
