Babies just give grown ups, mostly moms, an opportunity to express their personal style vicariously. As I was sitting at a baby shower recently, I watched in wonderment as all of these cutesy pink things were passed around amidst oohs and ahhs. I found myself mildly amused because those clothes are not for the baby; they're for the mom! We don't yet know that child's fashion preferences! She may grow up someday and look at her baby pictures and want to barf because she hates pink and frillies. If I have a baby, I'll probably dress him or her in basic colors, until she can tell me what her favorite color is.

And I think I want a water birth.
