Why does the word "literally" have its own army of pedantic champions to defend its honor? I avoid them by never uttering it, but I've seen other people subjected to their pseudo-cleverness.
"That guy said he literally got taken to the cleaner's. Let's ask him how dirty he was! Get it?" *insert swinish chuckles here*
I don't see anything wrong with using "literally" it as an intensifier, even if it is awkward. The English language would constantly annoy me if I couldn't stand to hear people saying things they didn't exactly mean.
Let's focus on our real enemies - the people who use unnecessary apostrophes and say "irregardless."
