Comments: Jun discovers what Kirito is like when drunk...the first part in a [still untitled] series of ordinary events in Jun and Kirito's life. This fic is to honor Pierrot's beginnings and not concentrate on regretting their end.
Jun watched people. As a bartender, he didn’t really have much else to do - after all, there was a limit to how many hours you can listen to a guy complain about his job, his wife, or his weight. Seriously, if you don’t want to be heavy, stop drinking so much. What an endless cycle of stupidity.
So instead of listening, he observed what people did when they weren’t talking. There were the lonely guys who eyed a pretty girl all night and yet never approached her, the angry ones who threw back shots with such intensity it was surprising they didn’t break the glasses, and the men who drank just to get silly. The silly ones were the most entertaining.
Usually Jun was pretty good at evaluating what type of drunk a man would be. With Kirito, however, he had no clue. He had never seen Kirito get drunk. He would come into the bar, settle down in a chair, order a beer, and spend all night nursing the same one and waiting patiently for when Jun had time to come over and talk. Jun didn’t really know why he came to the bar at all, but he was glad for it. He never saw Kirito outside of the bar - he wasn’t sure where to go with a man he’d known for less than two weeks. Or maybe it was just the fact that it was Kirito that held him back from asking. He got nervous around the older man - a little shaky and tingly, forgetting words and getting tongue-tied. He still had yet to mention that he wanted to start a band, even though that was why his friend had introduced him to the other man in the first place.
So tonight when Kirito walked in around 7:30, right as the crowd of salarymen charged in to drink off a hard Thursday’s work, Jun expected it to be the same as the other eight times Kirito had stopped by in the past two weeks. He’d talk to him, try to get up the nerve to ask him about a band, fail, and spend the rest of the night embarrassed from some slip-up he’d made. This prediction didn’t stop Jun from ignoring the salarymen and making a beeline for where Kirito had perched himself on a stool.
“What’ll it be tonight, Kirito-san? Beer as usual?” Jun asked, his hand already reaching for Kirito’s normal order.
Kirito started to nod, then paused and looked thoughtful. “Actually…I’ll have a double shot of tequila to start off with.”
To start off with? What exactly was he planning on drinking tonight? Jun had a feeling Kirito wouldn’t be discussing world affairs like usual. This might prove to be interesting.
As Jun dealt with the depressed, whiny office workers for the next hour and a half, he kept his eye on Kirito. He had ordered several more various shots from different bartenders, gulping them down as each new one arrived. The older man’s eyes were getting a little less focused and a little more happy…he was definitely going to be a silly drunk.
At the nine o’clock lull, Jun made his way back over to Kirito’s side of the bar.
“How are you holding up?” Jun asked the other man. Kirito looked a little too far past “pleasantly tipsy.”
Kirito giggled. Yes, giggled. “Did you know,” he began, leaning slightly to the left, “that my little brother’s taller than me?” He seemed to find this fact very funny. The giggling increased.
Jun was used to drunks. He dealt with drunks all the time. He was not used to a drunk Kirito. All his tried and true methods of dealing had flown out the window at the giggle.
“Is…that so?” Jun asked. “That’s…nice.”
Kirito shrugged. “Not particularly. But it’s okay, I still boss him around anyways. I boss a lot of people around. I’m very bossy. Boss boss boss.” Here he paused, seemingly to contemplate the word “boss”.
“Did something happen today? Some reason you decided to get a little…tipsy?” Jun asked as tactfully as possible, which was not very.
Kirito suddenly sobered. Well, his expression sobered. He was definitely not sober.
“For the past week or two, I’ve had something to say to you, and I haven’t said it. I’m very good with words usually…just not around you. I think it’s ‘cause you’re too cute.” Jun raised his eyebrow at that small delusional admission. “I can see you doubt it, but you are. Too cute, that is. Anyways…what was I talking about?”
“Something you wanted to tell me.”
“Ah, yes…so I decided that to tell you, I’d have to get really drunk and really silly. Then maybe you wouldn’t be so cute. But actually, you’re even cuter when I’m drunk. That was not in the plan.” Kirito glared at Jun as if it was his fault he was too cute.
“Most people are cuter when you’re drunk. It’s why people have sex while drunk. Because ugly people turn cute. And drunk people are stupid.”
“I’m not stupid! And you’re not ugly. And there will be no sex…not tonight at least.”
Jun was rather alarmed by that. Not tonight? And what night would they be having sex?
“So,” Kirito continued as if he hadn’t just implied that he and Jun would be indulging in not-so-innocent practices sometime other than right then, “now I’m really drunk and I’m going to tell you something. I…like you. A lot.”
Jun’s eyes widened, and he froze. That explained the sex thing. And the too cute claim. Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear.
“It’s your turn to say something. Just be forewarned, although I’m not a crying drunk, I will use tears to sway you if necessary. Guilt. It’s great for manipal… manipuat… maniputate… controlling people.”
Jun remained silent, staring at Kirito. Say something…say what? Something. That’s helpful. Okay, gorgeous man just confessed that he likes you…what do you say? No, “yay” will not cut it. “Holy fuck” might though.
That decided, Jun uttered a “Holy fuck”.
Kirito was not pleased.
He stood up and loomed over Jun from his 168 cm. Jun suddenly understood just why Kirito’s brother would obey him. Kirito was scary when pissed. Was there some way to invoke the “too cute” factor? Jun tried puppy dog eyes.
Kirito’s eyes lost their glare and went back to slightly fuzzy happy.
“That’s not fair,” he whined - first a giggle, now a whine? - and settled back onto his stool unhappily. “You’re already too cute, enhanced by the drunkness, and now those eyes! I can’t win.” He moodily began rearranging his empty glasses into a heart. Then he glanced meaningfully between the heart and Jun.
“Well? What’s your answer?”
“I…” Damn it, here comes the tongue-tied, forgets-his-words Jun that appears whenever Kirito looks at him. “Well, you see…”
If anyone's ever told you Kirito’s a patient person, well, they were lying. He’s not. He wants what he wants when he wants it and no one should get in his way. So, true to form, the short man took what he wanted.
And what he wanted was a kiss from Jun.
Finding his lips suddenly attacked by a very drunk, slightly goofy, quite hot man, Jun froze up again and crossed his eyes in his attempt to see his lips being consumed by Kirito’s. It didn’t work. He hadn’t thought it would.
Frustrated at Jun’s lack of response, Kirito tore his lips away, grabbed Jun’s face with both his hands, and looked deep into the other man’s eyes.
“I’m going to try that again. And you’re going to join in. Got it?”
Since his head was rather immobile, Jun nodded with his eyes. He was sure it looked a little weird, but Kirito accepted it as an answer and slowly pulled his face forward to touch their lips together.
This time, Jun responded and let himself enjoy the kiss with his eyes closed and not crossed. And he definitely enjoyed it. Kirito’s lips were very soft and full and firm and demanding and sweet and… Could you get drunk by kissing a drunkard? He definitely felt a little tipsy.
When Kirito pulled away this time, Jun kept his eyes closed and finally gave the other man an answer - “Okay.”
“Okay? Okay what?”
“Okay, you like me. Now kiss me again.”
Kirito smiled and claimed the younger man’s lips once more. Jun decided that all things considered, he definitely liked a drunk Kirito. Tomorrow he could determine how he felt about all the other Kiritos he was sure to encounter.
