OMG, you should get one. I got an HTC EVO 4G (Droid OS), and I have Sprint. It's a touch-screen so there is no keypad but I got used to that very fast.
I have not yet had to pay for any apps and I'm really happy with it.
So far, the only downsides I've seen to it are a short battery life; the accessories tend to be universal, rather than EVO-specific (iPhones are very plentiful in the accessories dept); and I can't get Gophermail to send email out on it (we think it's b/c the University changed its certificate b/c I have heard other ppl have had the same issue with other Droid phones. We think if we switched to gmail, it would be fine, but we're in/affiliated with Academic Health so we can't switch yet. My other collaborator just uses another email client that isn't the default one and it works fine.). If you want, the charger can be reduced down to a single wire (w/o the little plug part that goes directly into the outlet) and you can charge it from a computer at work. Some people might not like how big it is but the larger screen size has been nice for reading documents, articles, etc. and watching vids.
