Jason and I are participating in a Community Supported Agriculture Program. It's where you make a payment upfront and that goes toward seed and other growing expenses at a farm. You're considered a shareholder so you then get a box every week with fruits and vegetables that the farm grows. So if it's a good growing season, you get a lot, but if it's a bad season, you don't get as much. Sometimes you can get some pretty interesting things you may not have tried otherwise, like fennel bulb.
It's been generally pretty good so far. We've been out of town a bit so we've missed quite a few boxes. For the most part, we've been able to share it w/friends and family so that's pretty nice. I was hoping for more variety. It feels like they keep sending Swiss chard, cabbage, and squash. I'm not sure if we would do it again but it's kind of neat to be participating in it.
Here are some of the new things Jason and I have made this summer:
- Baked fennel bulb au gratin
- Kale bake (

- Ethiopian (kale and cabbage dishes)
