If you haven't been watching the World Cup, you should be!
FIFA has so many ups and downs this year that there's no lack in entertainment -- so I hope it continues through this week... especially with our team tomorrow!
Firstly, it's amazing to see the players' skill. The way they practically dance with the ball anticipating the moves of the other team and hoping for that one beautiful moment that they can take a shot -- really amazing to watch. The best of the best.
Secondly, the fans are great. You can feel the hopes and dreams and as cheesy as this sounds, I do feel united. We all cheer or grieve; when Chile didn't get that penalty point, I felt my heart sink.
Thirdly, crazy stuff happens. From biting to diving -- >>
http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/28082629 ; Sadly, there's a lot of this 'faking' in soccer... it's why I didn't watch Italian soccer when I lived there. Takes about 5 minutes for the crying member who was so lightly touched to get up and play on. In that respect, Rugby is awesome. They keep going.
It is however very frustrating to see it at the World Cup. People are attempting to play the game well, to their best, and honestly. Mexico has every right to be complaining about the lack of action. Had there been something done on the early dives, that player would not have been able to take the penalty shot that took them out of the draw. It'd just be nice to play the game without dealing with these 'faked' fouls; they're heart crushing.
