If you guys don't play this with me I'm going to end up making a post about Miley and why I wish I could kidnap her and make her read books.* And then show her Britney's career with illustrated highlights. And then detail Britney and Justin's break up, and how Mr. Nick Jonas REMINDS ME A LOT OF JUSTIN. I don't dislike Miley but every time I think ( Read more... )

I should probably not tell you that she just said on Twitter that being called "the next Britney" is the greatest compliment she's gotten.

I KNOW.

I can't dislike Miley, she's a KID! But I feel like, WTF. WHERE ARE THE ADULTS PROTECTING HER FROM SEXUAL EXPLOITATION AND THAT SPECTACLE?! WHY WASN'T ANYONE SAYING "This is a FAMILY-kid's show! Lets get you some cute, longer shorts, a shirt that will cover your bra and some ADORABLE, PLAYFUL dance moves that don't include a pole!"

I completely, whole-heartedly agree. I am not saying that Miley has to be kept pure and only wear Sunday dresses and bobby socks. I am most definitely NOT saying Miley is a slut.

But I just think that if her people and her PARENTS are going to agree to use her young sexuality as a major selling/attention grabbing tool they should prepared for:

a) Myself and others to be uncomfortable with that and to voice our discomfort
b) People not being ready to believe that "Tee hee! It was all innocent fun!"
c) Having to keep pushing the envelope to keep getting the same amount of attention.
d) This choice to possibly have some unforeseen life consequences for Miley.

Yes, I agree with ALL of this.

It made me FRUSTRATED, because there are SO FEW positive representations of young women on tv, and now I feel like, when my baby girl is old enough, I don't think I'll be letting her even watch NICKELODEON. Which is really BULLSHIT. But I don't need my daughter being shown how a 16-year-old girl's sexuality is being exploited by everyone, made exotic and erotic, offered for visual pleasure.

UGH.

Dude, isn't that sad? I read an article today where some cheeky douche peddling body wash with pheromones said, "I won't guarantee it'll get you a home run, but it'll get you to first base." And just like, it was such a slap in the face.

I mean, he's basically implying he's got a product that will force a girl to give it up, even just a little. Why not just go full out and start selling special Date Rape Beer (Pre-roofied!). That way you can buy her a round and she'll be all, "Oh he really likes me. He sprung for the Date Rape Beer!"

Ugh. I hate that women are still things to be tricked into sex, and I hate that little girls are getting tricked into thinking that they're at their best when they're sexy.

I just can't dismiss it! Even when it's a mild use of a 16 year old girl's sexuality. It's not Miley, she's just a girl! It's EVERYTHING. I wish she didn't want to grow up so fast, (especially now that I know how much it blows). I wish that her growing up so fast didn't encourage other kids to grow up too fast. I wish society at large didn't expose kids to sex, drugs, and violence with too little context and too little education and guidance from their parents. I wish it was something people still wanted and fought for, the right for their kids to be kids.

GUH! Won't someone PLEASE think of the children?
