Gogol Bordello kicked my ass on Thursday.
It was such an insane night!
Jer and I spent the day in San Francisco, hanging out in the Haight/Ashbury area. Had lunch at my favorite Mexican place in the Bay Area, called El Balazo. Then we went to Amoeba Records where I proceeded to try and buy the entire store. I was ultimately a good girl and only walked out with another Le Tigre album and Daniel Johnston's "Hi How Are You?". We really just hung out and walked around, snooped around in some shops and whatnot.
We made our way back downtown to the Warfield early, because we got there really late for the Arctic Monkeys show a few months back, and had horrible seats (because it's all general admission, the floor is first come first serve) and we didn't want to sit up top again.
We had time to have a couple of drinks before the first band, Skindred, took the stage. They're kind of like a mix of Bob Marley and Pantera. Unexpected, but very well done. I enjoyed them. We were pretty much front row when Gogol went on. I was behind some girl who was with a guy in a wheelchair. They were both up against the railing. Having the guy with the wheelchair right up front caused some problems for everyone around him, but he was such a cool guy. The crowd was really pushy and violent and he was really good at protecting me and his girlfriend. Unfortunately the two of them checked out early (the pit really was crazy) which was sad because I totally wanted to introduce myself to them afterward and thank them for being hella cool.
Problems in the pit aside, Gogol was so fucking amazing. They're all so full of energy and fun, it's just rejuvenating to watch them. I would get so exhausted from fighting in the pit but they kept me going because they were just so alive. It was great. Most.Fun.Ever.
Next time they play I will so be there. And next time I'll be sure to dress like a gypsy punk.
