wearing a ring from '66
she can't find the place
in this sweater
where she fits.
it's been raining for days
and she counts down the hours
until the tears stop
and the light shines through.
it's funny how things change
and how laughter differs
she's too tired to do anything but dance
because her heart beats in quarter time
it's he who is her youth
her love
her heaven
she wishes that her breath was easy
that her pulse came as naturally
as the pain she endures
for the longing of another.

tears from your eyes
onto your jeans
from me
i swear
i never meant it
you don't know who you are
and i can't blame you
sometimes
"i love you"
just isn't enough.

i am lost
and now i feel worse
divided between my roots
igniting a brand new fire
sure to spread throughout my years
oh youth
be true
be vague
be naive
be young.

the wind has brought my soul back
and yet my lungs feel no remorse.

i just don't know what to say anymore
is "i love you" enough?
we've grown up but we're still the same
i wish i knew how to do this forever
my head doesn't know what my hand should write
but speaking of you doesn't hurt at all.
the summer's almost gone
we watched fireworks proclaim our love
shoved under blankets while i sang too much
your socks all over my bedroom floor
does this make sense?
i'm forcing these words out
i'm too tired to do anything but dance
because i laugh in quarter time
life me off my feet
and grow up before i do.
