"Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. How do you know this is the experience you need? Because this is the experience you are having at this moment." -A New Earth
Moment:
This weekend I am alone. No Dinh. No Mass. Just me and Milton. Taking Milton makes me want to go back to Shakespeare. I'm sorry Will, I didn't mean to put down your ambiguous lines and emulsified plot schemes. Come back! Well, in my mind, I'm already graduated. I'm really bad-- instead of attending to my week's readings, I look for graduation invitations. 56 more days!
Palette:
This past week I made pork chops with an apple glaze and learned that I don't like fruits with my meats. I also made chicken parmesan and learned that I should make my own bread crumbs instead of store bought. Next dish, jicama and cucumber salad: refreshing. And next palette plans: having afternoon iced tea and lime cookies on the beach with girlfriends; if you're reading this then you're invited.
Plans:
Dinh and I would like to go on a cruise to the Caribbean next summer ('09)...any takers? I'm looking into Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas for 5-7 days ($700-1000 + airfare to Florida). Let me know if you're interested; it'll be grand on a grandeur ship (the biggest one sailing)! I just watched Samantha Brown on it on the Travel Channel and she swam with the dolphins and sting rays (minus stings) in Cozumel, Mexico, parasailed in Haiti, watched blue iguanas in Grand Cayman, and rope-glided through a tropical forest in Jamaica, not to mention ate her whole way through it!
Causes:
I've decided that I'd like to sponsor/research/advocate a new cause each month. I became extremely inspired after I watched a segment on Oprah and learned that it does not take much to make a difference. For this month I'd like to introduce you to UNICEF ("United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund")
What do they do? UNICEF began in the aftermath of World War II as a tiny operation supplying starving girls and boys in Europe, the Middle East and China with dried milk and nutritional supplements. Today UNICEF works for the survival, protection, and development of children in more than 150 countries and territories around the world. UNICEF helps develop community-based programs to promote health and immunization programs, basic education, nutrition, safe water supply and sanitation services, and continues to provide emergency relief as needed.
What can you do? You can donate, volunteer, and shop where 100% of the proceeds will go to saving a child's life. What I'm doing is shopping by purchasing cute note cards at
http://www.shopcardsandgifts.unicefusa.org/ . I bought the Everyday cards in "colorful customs assortment". So guys bring writing back to life with these cards and instead of posting a comment on someone's page, take the time to write "how are you" on a card that actually carries more of an intended meaning. For all my artistic friends out there, you could even submit your own artwork to be used for their future cards. I know this isn't much, but our "not much" means "so much" to them.
See you soon hopefully!
