So this episode wasn't as pointless/cracky/failtastic as I was expecting it to be.
ETA: Now with bonus 6x20 spoilers and spec
Okay, so this won't be long since I have other things I need to be doing, but...
It was a decent episode. The promos totally focused on the wrong aspects of it (those being the lulzy bits).
LOL at the fact that I can now tie SPN to Tin Man. The lawyer who got hit by a bus? DeMilo in Tin Man... The guy whose role Balthazar will be taking, actually XD
Also LOL at the guy's death, because come on... Atropos clearly has a sense of humor.
And if they have Atropos, I would have liked to see Lachesis and Clotho, too. Or hell, even just Atropos using her shears. Every time she killed someone, she could have snipped a thread from her bookmark thingy...
And during her rant about needing order, and everything being chaos, I suddenly imagined Eris somewhere partying because she's finally gotten a one-up on the Fates/Order. And now I want Eris to show up and be all grateful and happy with the boys because they are essentially agents of Chaos, given their 'fuck destiny' attitudes. Hell, she could even favor Cas because his brothers are "all about destiny and order, but YOU, you shake things up. I like that." I may be projecting the portrayal of Eris from a series of books I love... shut up.
Can we take a minute to bask in the glory of the line "The one in the dirty trenchcoat who's in love with you.". That was said directly to Dean. That Dean didn't look completely disgusted/freaked out about. That no one tried to refute? Because I think it merits some basking. *basks*
*still basking*
*yup, still basking*
Have any ship wars started over this? Probably not, since it was just a quick throwaway line that many will probably just say "it was just a joke" about. But it would still be funny. I'm just going to pretend that Balthy meant it literally. YOU WILL NOT DESTROY MY HEADCANON.
Also, heeellllloooooo ship when Cas just basically gives up an important part of his strategy to keep Dean the boys from being killed. And then TELLING them that he did it, because "it was the only way to be sure you would be safe", and he looks at Dean when he says "you"... Meesa is pleased with this...
And strangely enough, also with Cas lying. This is like, Season 4 Cas, with all his moral ambiguity, and Season 5 Cas, with his devotion to Dean all rolled into one morally ambiguous, devoted-to-Dean-and-his-safety package, and I love it.
I don't so much love the certainty possibility that this will come back to bite him in the ass when the boys find out and possibly stop trusting him, but there's a price for everything.
I still don't get all the crowing about evil!Cas. It's far too late in the season to spring that one on us, I think. but then, this is Sera's season, so who knows.
Anyway, I don't think there will be Evil!Cas; the boys will just find out about all the Regrettable Things Cas has done in the war, and that he's been lying, and their trust in him will be if not ruined, then taken down a good few notches...
No doubt he will do something in the finale to earn their trust back...
........if that something is dying to save them, I will break shit, I swear. DO NOT KILL HIM, SHOW. IF YOU KILL HIM, YOU HAD BETTER HAVE THE MOST EPIC STORYLINE OF ALL TIME AND EDLUND HAD BETTER BE IN CHARGE FOR SEASON 7 OR ELSE I'M DONE.
Oh and those 6x20 pics we saw, with Cas in the holy fire and Dean looking heartbroken? I want this to be the dialogue. And if it's not, I'm going to be disappointed...
Dean: Cas, you're telling the truth right? You wouldn't-
Cas: Dean...I...
Dean: Those are people, dammit Cas! Human souls!
Cas: You don't understand, I didn't have a choice, if Raphael...
Dean: There's always a choice! you can choose to do the right thing, you can choose to do the human thing-
Cas: I'm not human Dean! I never was, or did that escape your attention?
Cas: Just...just do it.
Dean: *disbelieving* you think I'm going to kill you?
Cas: that's why you've bought me here isn't it?'
Dean: *brokenly* ...Cas
Cas: *steely resolve face* you should.
The above is from
slinkymilinky And my own continuation is this: and then Dean will look heartbroken for a few more moments before he tells Bobby or Sam to put out the flames, and Cas will be confused, and Dean will tell him to get out, and he'll go, and then they'll be all angsty, and Dean will explain to Bobby and Sam that they've all done some things they regret, that maybe they shouldn't have been forgiven for, but they were anyway, and Cas deserves the same chance...
