First a meme from
tentacledness 1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
I wrap anything I can, because I personally prefer unwrapping things to just pulling something out of a bag... The unwrapping is the best part. It's over too quickly if you can just pull something out of a bag. However, my mom likes to use bags and boxes/paper.
2. Real tree or Artificial?
Artificial. We got a real tree one year and discovered that it didn't agree with my allergies.
3. When do you put up the tree?
December 1st, if it's possible. This year it took longer 'cause we had to get a new tree.
4.When do you take the tree down?
Usually mid to late January. Last year it was up til Valentine's day, 'cause we kept forgetting it (it was in an out-of-the way corner, since there was nowhere else to put it, so it was easy to forget XD)
5. Do you like egg nog?
Hell yes. It's best when you add a little rum or brandy to it. Eggnog milkshakes are also awesome.
6. Favorite gift received as a child?
Easy, my second pet rat, Ruby (her full name was Ruby-Eyed Demon.... which, considering my current fandom, is hilarious in hindsight. Yes, she did have red eyes. And she was pure evil)
7. Hardest person to buy for?
Ugh, my dad all the way. I gave up on buying him anything years ago. Now if I can't find anything to make for him, he's out of luck. He rarely cares, though; mama's presents usually keep him occupied.
8. Easiest person to buy for?
My mom. Find her the appropriate teddy bear, and you're golden.
9. Do you have a nativity scene?
Nope. The household isn't Christian. and to be honest, every time I see a nativity scene, and the person who has it honestly believes Christmas is Jesus' birthday, I have to really really struggle with the urge to give them a quick history lesson...
10. Mail or email Christmas cards?
Neither. Cards are too impersonal, just on their own, but I've no idea what to write in them. So I don't bother.
11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
Hah, if I tried to list them all (and they're equally bad, I assure you), we'd be here all night. It's what happens when NONE of your grandparents realize you're not 6 anymore. Thankfully the worst offender has learned to actually LISTEN when I tell her what I want, or to just give me gift cards... She always expects me to be unhappy with the gift cards, but you know, I like being able to pick things out for myself.
12. Favorite Christmas Movie?
A Christmas Story.
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
Whenever I have money. This year I didn't do much shopping. The one thing I bought, I bought in October.
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
No. If I get something I don't like/don't want to keep, I just return it, if at all possible.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
Hershey's chocolate mint candy canes. And the soft peppermint sticks.
16. Lights on the tree?
Yup.
17. Favorite Christmas song?
What is Christmas, Wish Listz, Carol of the Bells, Kidnap the Sandy Claws
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
Stay home. In pajamas. Checking out new stuff.
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer's?
Dasher, Dancer, Donner, Blitzen, Comet, Vixen, Cupid, Comet, Prancer, and Rudolph
20. Angel on the tree top or a star?
Star. If there's an angel going on top of my tree, it best be wearing a trenchcoat and a blue tie
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
Presents from my mom and dad? Christmas morning. Maybe one on Christmas eve, if they got me pajamas or something.
Presents from the extended family? Depends on what day closest to Christmas every is off work . Usually Christmas Eve, or the day after Christmas. This year, it's the 23rd.
22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?
My mom. Seriously, she starts spazzing out when December hits. She gets snappy and starts shouting if you so much as walk by her office because OMG WHAT IF YOU SEE HER EBAY PAGE...
23. Favorite ornament, theme, or color?
either our old color scheme: blue and silver
or our new color scheme: black, dark brown, beige, gold, and dark red
24. Favorite for Christmas Dinner?
Turkey. We don't get turkey this year. My mom's making a prickly-pear glazed ham. I dunno about the prickly-pear bit, but I do know that I'm not the biggest fan of ham most of the time...
25. What do you want for Christmas this year?
Hah, I couldn't even tell you. I gave my mom this huge list, but I can't think of anything I want more than anything else... Except maybe Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. But my mom got that for my dad... I would say it's possible she got it for me too, but I tested my dad's copy out to make sure it played right, and it had to install and everything, which means whatever game I did get (and I know it was a game, because there's nothing else my mom could have sent my sister downstairs to test), it wasn't AC:B. I am slightly disappointed. Ah well, I'll steal my dad's copy when he gets pissed off with it.
With the meme done, a few other things
*I have my dad's goggles finished now, and they look great with the top hat my sister made for him. We just have to hope that the hat will fit him.
*Have all of the carving, painting, and staining done on my mom's walking staff now. Now I just have to wrap the grip in some leather, add a few extra decorations, and I'm done. It wouldn't have taken so long except I kept forgetting to buy stain XD
*Have my mom's charm bracelet finished, made a few charms out of some of the gears we got. Now if only I can make her remember to wear it :P
So far plans for Christmas are the norm. We're going out to my aunt's on the 23rd for the family dinner and gift exchange. Thankfully the only cousin I have anything in common with on this side of the family is going to be there, so we can hide from people together and discuss fandom things.
Trip to Wichita Falls on Wednesday for last minute shopping. Yay crowds! At least it won't be Christmas eve. Last year we did last minute shopping on Christmas eve, and it was hell. It was fun, but it was hell.
Is anyone on my f-list going to do what I do, and get up at 5 a.m. on Christmas morning, or will there be sleeping in? Christmas is about the only day I CAN'T sleep in XD 5 am rolls around and I'm outta bed and down the stairs. When I was little, I used to come up with clever ploys to make TONS of noise without seeming like I was doing it on purpose so that everyone else would get up too, so we could get on with the present opening already. Now I get up, go through my stocking, put in A Christmas Story and just wait. Mostly. My sister never gets to sleep past 5:30, because I'll get her up. At least she appreciates it XD
The owls that sit outside my bedroom window from mid-December to mid-January are back now. They get louder every night. Last year they kept me awake til after 3 on Christmas eve B|
Annnd I'm done blabbing now.
