Or he does, as the case may be. I've now watched all the skates from the Yokohama Counter Match, and as many Johnny fans have noted, it is good to see him so happy and confident. The first time watching, on the Korean message board posting that first made the rounds this morning, I wasn't sure what to make of it(though at one point while it was loading I had to pause on Johnny in the catchfoot position of his final spin and just stared in vague awe for awhile), but after watching it over after downloading it in .avi format I decided I wanted to see it again. And again.
I actually did note the hand down on the triple axel and the slow speed, and had to remind myself that he would hopefully be better at Cup of China. So I wondered how that would play out. Then I saw all the other guys programs. Beginning of the season blues aplenty here. A pity, because I still think Jeremy Abbott's multiple waltz program rocks. At least he didn't melt down half as badly as poor Daisuke Takahashi.
The ladies seemed to be having some problems too. I'm worried about both Miki Ando and Fumui Suguri after watching; that fall Ando suffered looked nasty in the replay, though the clip I saw didn't include the beginning of her program, and Suguri just looked tired without any explanation at all. She might be getting too old for this, perhaps. Even Mirai Nagasu fell twice, and she's a good month into her season! The performance I ended up enjoying the most was the Japanese junior girl and her Polvetsian Techno, which just made me giggle.
