I gave Stacy a lesson in American elctoral system last night when I got her to witness the ballot. So it was lying about sealed this morning when I watched The Daily Show featuring Allen versus Webb with them both coming off looking bad. Almost enough to make me wish I voted for the third party candidate. But heck with it, I do want Allen out of office, especially now since it would reflect badly on the Virginia population if we didn't vote him out after that macaca incident.
Also the first year I understood any of the amendments being proposed, and wished I didn't. You can hear all you want about gay marriage amendments in other states, but facing one down on your ballot knowing it'll more likely than not pass is a particularly unpleasant experience. Meanwhile another amendment is trying to give churches more advantages, and there was a third I didn't quite understand, but I ended up voting against it too, just to be on the safe side.
Mailed off now, and every year when I vote I rec something. It started with a set of a
election-related fics in 2004, and last year I linked to the Holonet News. This year I'm reccing highlights from my YouTube favorites list. Note that none of the videos here with fan-edited content were uploaded by anyone other than the person who made them, at least as far I know.
As I am typing this, I intend to embed three or four of them, decided on by the act of flipping a coin.
Star Trek Odo/Kira vid. There are probably better ones on YouTube I haven't found yet, but this one reminded me why I fell for my first ever OTP. I'm still in denial about him leaving at the end.
There are many pieces of footage of Torvill and Dean's famous Bolero on YouTube, but this was the one that got onto my favorites list by advertising it's high quality. I'd already dealt with a couple of low-quality Bolero vids by the time I found it. It's not entirely crisp, but I don't think any 80s footage is anyway.
How Not To Be Seen in the Star Wars Galaxy. I was almost required to rec something from
Used2bVader. Be sure to check out his other vids too.
Star Wars meets Jerry Springer, with music by Weird Al Yankovic. The first time I saw this I couldn't stop laughing.
Anissina and Peizerat Star Wars ProgramMixing my two current obssessions! Just ignore the annoying French commentators. They'll shut up eventually.
Star Wars/Pulp Fiction TrailerOne of my early discovers. Shameless exploitation of Samuel L. Jackson being on both films.
The Olympic WICKED Games
Part One,
Part Two Part Three Part Four Part Five I'm getting into ice skating montages, especially as I just might be able to make them myself, if I can locate and/or download editing software, since I've found a place to get footage to work with, and this five part Torino figure skating montage set to most of the Wicked score, is the montage to end all montages. And if the maker had a little too much with the Fusar Poli-Margligio diva-fit, well, it wasn't as if NBC didn't too...
Ice Dance-You Should Be Dancing But if that one was a little long for you, you can just watch this one. I especially like the choice of final clip.
2006 Original Dance SplatfestOr if even that one's too long for your patience, this one's only 41 seconds of operatic hilarity.
Sesame Street-Lambaba One of my favorite segments as a kid. It's only rewatching it, though, that I realize how very 80s the music is. Oddly enough, it wasn't written by Christopher Cerf, who wrote some of the best old Sesame Street music, but by a Tony Geiss.
Ernie and Bert Explore a PyramidChildhood memories expanded, since I only saw the cut down version as a kid, but even then it was another of my favorites.
Vincent Price & the Muppets-You've Got a FriendI was quite upset when this wasn't include on The Muppet Show Season One DVD set, as it was one of the ones I remembered seeing as a child and was really looking forward to watching again. Check the user's profile and you'll find another cut number on the second page of his videos.
Jon Stewart on Question MarksActually added just now because this exercise informed me how little Stewart/Colbert there is on my favorites list. So I popped into this user profile, which has clips from all recent Daily Shows/Colbert Roberts with good quality and video and sound in sync, and believe me, the last two don't apply to the majority of YouTube Stewart/Colbert clips.
