Ok I understand what you are trying to say, but funny was just a harsh word. Interesting or odd would have probably suited your meaning. "Funny" just seems to mock it.

I am from Hattiesburg, MS, and it IS interesting that the houses were swept away with the surge and winds, but the historic trees remained. I feel like it was God's way of telling us that we still have roots here, and that houses can be rebuilt. Katrina was hard to deal with, but Mississippi has really come a long way since then in rebuilding the coast. Our state government has allowed the coast to rebuild the economy and the general uplifting spirit of Mississippians is what has brought everyone back here.

This is why New Orleans is still empty and ragged. Most of those who left did not come back to help their city rebuild.
