This week and weekend have been insane!
Yesterday, I was literally out of my room from 9:00am-midnight..
I registered for my classes, sold challah, worked at the store, had day one of the core film festival, and saw science of sleep.
My tentative schedule for next semester:
Monday Wednesday:
11:00-12:15 Intro Sociology (so i can be a soc. major)
1:15-2:30 Human Sexuality (women's studies req. and awesome class!)
6:00-7:00 Beginning Social Dance (maybe..sounds like fun)
Tuesday Thursday
1:15-2:30 Sociology of Work and Occupations (bleh. might end up dropping)
2:45-4:00 Literature and Film of the African Diaspora (sounds awesome)
+ Wed. 7:00-9:50 lab (assuming we're going to be doing the film part during this time)
No scripps classes! No CORE! that's going to be super weird, but i think it will be really cool.
Registration was a bitch. as usual. I had one of the worst possible registrations times, which is always fun. I had probably about 10-15 people behind me, and as I was leaving, freshmen were heading down to wait to register. yup.
but besides that, basically every class i wanted to take was at the same time, or overlapped with one of the intro sociology sections. so, I ended up making 3 COMPLETELY different schedules.
Now that I have this schedule, I'm not sure whether I should play around with it anymore.
I really really really wanted sociology of health and medicine, but it was closed. If I try to get into it, I would have to take the T/Th Intro Soc. and wouldn't be able to take the african diaspora class, and then i'd have to find another class. There were a few other soc. classes that wouldn't screw with my schedule at all, but they're taught by my soc. professor now, who i have mixed feelings about, and the subject matter just doesn't appeal to me as much.
I also think I may have done something stupid that will screw me over. I decided to ignore the fact that I should take survey research methods this semester (for sociology), because i really wanted to take human sexuality or intro queer studies in that time slot. So, I also need to talk to someone at the soc. dept. to see if that's going to be a problem, with me going abroad and all. MEH.
The film festival:
for my core 3 (visual coding in hollywood film), we're putting on a film festival about representations and misrepresentations of youth in los angeles...so we're playing Boyz N the Hood, The Chumscrubber, and Thirteen.
Last night was Boyz N the Hood. It went really well (despite a kinda crappy turnout, especially for the discussion) and the girls who were leading the discussion were amazing!
Tonight's chumscrubber. my group..I'm not really looking forward to watching the movie for the 11th time, but it should be fun, and hopefully we lead the discussion well.
I'll update on that once it's over!
Science of Sleep:
O.M.G. Definitely one of the best movies i've seen in a while..that's not surprising though, since i haven't seen many besides CORE movies..
it was SOO good!! visually AMAZING. lots of visual coding (hah, oh core. i will never watch movies in the same way..)
i was laughing constantly! it had an amazing script...ahhhh...see it!
this is long enough for now. write again soon :)
