baby steps

Watching Charis grow over the past 8 months has taught me alot about noticing details. Every ounce gained, every size outgrown, every diaper, every new syllable, every expression, every effort at a new task, every new food demonstrates her progress. I guess that's why today meant so much to me. Not anything to do with Charis. It actually has alot to do with my mother. She took Charis and I shopping. Since Randy was forced from Mt. Pisgah, I can count on one hand the things I have bought for myself. Honestly, aside from the essentials and Christmas, I haven't been able to afford much of anything for Charis. We've relied on the generosities of our families. Today, mom took us shopping for dresses. Because, she said, we would need them in our new church. She said that repeatedly. This may not seem like a big deal to anyone, but I promise it is a milestone. She still may not agree with the move, and has made no bones about the fact that she is physically ill because of it. She may think we are misinterpreting God's will, and at times has been downright cold. But today was her saying, "No matter what, I support and love you. Always will. I'm proud of you." She might not have audibly said those things. She may not have it in her capacities to, but I heard her loud and clear. Thank you Lord for baby steps.
