057. Fix my old laptop

I'm writing this post from said laptop. The battery was shot, probably on account of an electrical surge in that horrible old building I was originally living in in Berlin, which was shorting out the charger; and some system file or something was corrupt, so it would BSOD instead of starting up properly, then try again, then BSOD, in an endless loop.

I took it to my uncle, who fixes computers for a living, and he managed to get it running again, at least. Unfortunately my old data is hidden somewhere, mysteriously, on the hard drive, because he didn't delete it but the computer can't find it. He said to bring it to him again when I've got more time and he'll try to scare it up.

I also scored a Microsoft Office disk out of the deal, so now I can stop struggling with OpenOffice -- which, although for a free alternative it is really quite good, is just different enough from Office to be a great frustration sometimes.

Anyway, even though my old data has yet to be found, I'm considering this goal completed. : )
