My first update!

Mar 25, 2009 15:39

After two weeks, this is my first update. You can make a surprising amount of progress in a short period of time - even allowing for the time I spent in Amsterdam and at Marillion Weekend with my friend Jane.

3. Keep up with my Monster resume & posting -- Answered 5 postings, got 3 nibbles, we’ll see what happens next. I think what I really need to do is better define what I want, which will be this weekend's project.

6. Relearn Russian - I pulled out my Russian language CDs and started listening.

10. Redo my livejournal -- Part-done: I changed layouts and colors thanks to the help of thefulcrum, now I need to add in backgrounds, verses, banners, icons, redo my tags and then maybe - change the name to something different. I'm not sure "It's Never Too Late" is positive enough -- it seems to imply that if you've wasted time before, you can still catch up now. And I don't want to catch up on the past -- just create a better future. If that makes sense?

16. Post regularly to communities - I joined apartmentgarden and have been posting there. I’ll post to other communities as soon as I can, and make more regular updates here.

17. Pick up with my Yahoo groups - The first of 7 is done, I’ve gone through all the back messages, replied where appropriate, apologized for my tardiness and made some original postings of my own.

19. Redo my budget in light of today’s economy - Half-done. I need to decide whether to switch from Comcast to Verizon, and find out how that would impact my internet connection speed. The price for the three parts of the package are $65 lower than Comcast!

23. Lose the weight I’ve gained - Lost 7.5% thus far.

24. Workout at the gym at least 4 times a week -- Did so 2/40 weeks remaining this year. I hit the gym the first week, and as for last week, when I was in Amsterdam, I figure the 5+ miles we walked each day, plus dancing through 3 nights of concerts at Marillion Weekend, counts as gym visits.

30. Work through my fanfiction backlog - I took the first step and listed all my ideas. I have a lot of writing to do here.

42. Figure out how to hang my large posters - Some progress here, mostly in the ‘what-won’t-work’ area. I have a huge (4 foot by 6 foot) poster from the movie King Arthur, and it definitely can’t be framed and mounted on the wall without pulling the wall down with it. Now I’m wondering if I should just leave it backed on plywood and ‘make’ a frame out of black ribbon - or ‘tack’ it onto the wall. And should I place something between the plywood to preserve the poster?

46. Knit my way through the yarn stash - I took everything out and calculated projects. I have seven sweaters, ten scarves, three pair of gloves and three hats to do. I decided that the other yarn will be listed for sale on craigslist, as I'm not likely to be making things from it.

48. Burn my vhs tapes over to dvds - Burnt the last season of Stargate Atlantis over, and some movies. Found that I’m discarding more than I’m burning - as in, ‘why did I want to watch this anyway?’

49. Organize my recipes into a cookbook - I gathered them up and found I have 6 accordion folders of recipes to try. I’m now winnowing them down into what I really want to try versus what sounds good but I’d probably never eat it.

54. Go through everything in storage & decide their future! - Listed the first batch on Craigslist.

58. Attend at least 30 local events (book clubs, knit-outs, etc.) -- 1/30. I went to The Victory Garden lecture at the library on 3/12/09 - a packed house and lots of great ideas for my balcony garden!

91. Use reusable bags at the grocery store - Bought the bags, and then forgot them in the trunk my first visit! I will have to do better.

92. Start doing & stop thinking! - I definitely made progress here thanks to this group!

98. Donate the series book the library is missing - I gave the library Charmed Circle on 3/12/09, so now they have all four books in the series.
