its been a while...quick recap on the past week:

last saturday i went with michelle and her youth group to an orphange in the poorest part of santiago. it was incredible. most of the girls that i hung out with where between the ages of 5 and 13, and then there was another group of girls that live in a different part of the orphanage that were 14-17, but they played sports and stuff with some of the other kids and we did arts and crafts and games with the younger ones. i was put in charge of face painting...i dont face paint. the face paint i used was crap and so it made it even harder. it was fun though, flowers and hearts were easy, but then when a girl asked me to draw an american flag on her right cheek and a chilean flag on her left cheek i had to work a little bit harder. it turned out good though. then a couple of the little girls wanted to paint Pili's face...and she let them. they basically mixed every single color together and smeared it ALL over her face, she was such a good sport about it though. so after they painted pictures, and made jars and got their faces painted we took them to eat lunch in the recreation area to join up with the rest of the group. we sang a lot of Christian songs and Robbie played the guitar while Ryan (youth group leader) led the singing. it was fun, the kids were all so into it. then we had to pass out food to them and some of them were so stingy (especially one girl who was obviously like the boss of the whole place...she's been there her whole life and has authority over most of them). after that they danced "cueca" (national chilean dance) out on the basketball court. belgie and robbie were both asked to dance by two of the girls in the orphanage and then Madeline went and got a bunch of girls and started dancing with them. basically everyone ended up dancing. then we passed out some gifts that we had brought for them and said our goodbyes. on the way back home Madeline (the woman whose beach house i stayed at a couple of weekends ago) got us completely lost in like the middle of nowhere, it took us like an hour longer to get home than it took us to get there. it was awesome though, such a fun day.

then this week was spirit week...
monday: nationality day (TONS of different flags) and the lunchtime activities included like a flag guessing game...i realized how little knowledge i have of world flags:/ and then we did a national anthem game where you had to guess what national anthem was playing and then sing part of it...yeah i knew about 2 of those heh

tuesday: celebrity day, bonus points if you came as a famous couple. paula and i went as Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly from Chicago, it was awesome. the activity that day was "Trash Knowledge Bowl" i realized that i spend way too much time studying and not enough time watching T.V. paula, gary, benja, and i were the representatives for that game and we sucked sooo badly. if it weren't for paula (who watches t.v. nonstop) we wouldn't have gotten any points.

wednesday: Kindergarden Day, at lunch we played the videos that we had to make for the scavenger hunt that we do around town. the sophomores rightfully won that event

thursday: Class Color Day, a.k.a. Field Day. that day classes were half as long as normal and the second half of the day is spent up on the field playing games. first we do the class "cheers" and each class makes up this elaborate cheer and performs it for the whole school. ours was the best. then each class splits up into 4 groups and each group goes to their first station: water race, frisbee relay, obstacle course, or sack race. we have to complete the activity and then you move on to the next station and complete all four stations. after that we have the huge tug-of-war competition. each grade competes against all of the other grades. we tied with the seniors. at this point we were tied with the seniors and the balloon toss would determine the winner of the day and who would get all the points...so there's like 40 couples that start, and the very last couple remaining was Paula and Gary!! so we won the whole day.

friday: halloween day and to end the week: the lip syncs. they were good this year, except for the freshman but freshman always suck. basically in order to win spirit week we needed to get first place and the seniors needed to get below second place. BUT to shake things up they threw in a costume contest right before the lip sync and the seniors won with their rendition of the little red riding hood by Juan Daniel. so they announced fourth, obviously the freshman, and then they announced second, the 10th graders...so it was like if the juniors got first then we won spirit week...so they announced, first place the 11th graders, so of course we all thought we had won. but then because they added in the costume contest right before the lip sync the seniors won by only 25 points. seniors always win though, it's an unwritten rule, they always find a way to make the seniors win...so the tradition continued.

our guys' soccer team won the StuCo Cup competition, girls soccer got 2nd, boys volleyball 3rd and girls volleyball 3rd

friday night i went to dinner with gary and rebecca.

yesterday we went to the club and laid out by the pool, its getting warm here.

today we've had like random trick-or-treaters coming and none of them have costumes...its weird, and its kind of creeping me out.

tomorrow i'm going to babysit a 4-month old baby and make some extra cash. (we dont have school tomorrow, its the day of the dead)

only 17 more days
