I'm back

Where have I been, you ask? It's been a hectic month but not so hectic that I couldn't blog about it. I guess I was just feeling bloglazy. I've been doing lots of fun stuff, enjoying the summer and the beautiful Seattle weather, catching up with friends, doing some work on the house, hiking and oh yeah, job hunting.

The good news is that I have a job! I start a great job next Monday where I'll be working at an organization to help  implement technologies to help support their work. It's a great blend of my technology skills and new MLIS studies, so I'm really excited (and a bit nervous!) about it.

Other than that, we've been working on the patio. We've made some progress but not as much as we'd like. We've committed to working hard this week and next on it, and hopefully be done with it for the last few weeks of summer enjoyment. We use the half-finished patio all the time, so I'm sure we'll use it even more once it's totally finished! I haven't taken any pictures of it lately but I promise to have some soon.

Since I've been home, I've done a lot of catching up with friends. I went on a tour of the Theo Chocolate factory in Fremont. Scott went a couple weeks ago and returned with some beautiful and exceptionally yummy chocolate, so I decided I had to go, too. The fennel and fig confection was my favorite but they were all good. And so pretty!

Next came Harry Potter #7. It arrived thanks to Amazon on the date of publication. I didn't devour it as quickly as I thought I would but really enjoyed it. I won't say anymore because I don't want to be a spoiler!

There have been Seafair celebrations all month throughout the city. I admit that I don't usually participate in much of it but it's always fun to see the hydroplane boats around the city in places you wouldn't expect them (like driving up Dexter). The month-long celebration culminates with hydroplane races on lake Washington and the Blue Angels performing an air show. For some reason, I have a fear of air shows so I don't enjoy them much. When I was working at WRQ, we could often see and hear them flying over our building on the Thursday and Friday before the show for their practice runs.

And S and I went on a great backpacking trip this weekend to Marmot Pass on the Olympic Peninsula. We hadn't gone backpacking for a while and hadn't been to the Peninsula in years (how sad). We had a great time, great weather, not too many bugs and amazing views. Hank was in heaven. We saw a couple of marmots, lots of great wild flowers and lots of fog rolling through the campsite. I guess that's why they call it Camp Mystery. There was hardly anyone else there except for two brothers and the young daughter of one of the guys. She was only about seven or eight and we were impressed that she'd hiked the 5 miles with 2500' of elevation. The best part was that they had their gear on two goats that carried everything for them. The guy said the goats were especially good for carrying dolls and books. She looked pretty happy, so I believed him. We dropped our stuff at the campsite and hiked another 500' to the top of the pass. The fog was rolling in behind us but the views were incredible in front of us.
