Tossing fitfully in her sheets, Yuuki thrashed uncomfortably in her sleep, sweat soaking the bed beneath her while lost within the delusions that trapped her.
Blood. Blood stained her entire world, clouding her mind in a horrific nightmare that wouldn't fade. And within that nightmare something was there, reaching for her...clawing at her mind. She could feel as it's claws slid around her arms, digging into her very flesh in a grip she couldn't escape. Terrified she fought the hands that restrained her but the pain in her arms intensified.
"Stop-- STOP--!"
Gruesome fangs opened wide as they abruptly appeared out of the darkness that engulfed her. All else she could see was a set of mis-matched eyes. One red and the other blue as the monster smiled cruelly, before moving forward, and--
"ZERO--!!"
Breathe ragged, Yuuki shot up in bed, gasping for air. Eyes wide and terrified she looked frantically about the room, unmindful of her own nails dug sharply into the sides of her arms.
There. There was something there. It was going to eat her. She could feel it's desire to sink it's fangs into her neck and devour her entirely. Trembling uncontrollably she shook from head to toe, blood slowly trickling down from the puncture wounds her own nails had created.
The sound of his name had him moving quickly, the door open to keep air moving around the apartment as well as to alert both Yori and him to her every movement. Her sleep was restless and full of fits, but she had occasional periods of lucidity mixed in with her madness.
The scent of blood hit him as he entered the room. What is she doing? He just stood there not sure if he should actually go into the room further or get Yori to clean the wounds up. She wasn't calling for Yori though, and didn't seem to be in the best condition for bringing someone else in though.
Moving closer he tried to lock out the scent of her, with difficulty. Still he moved to her side. "Yuuki."
Turning her head, startled, Yuuki's eyes widened when she saw Zero. She suddenly felt aware of the pain in her arms, and glanced down at them. Ah... Slowly, her fingers retracted.
"I'm sorry..." Still shaking, she reached out unsteadily for a wet towel that sat along side her bed on the night stand. Blood. Blood would bother him. She had to...
Free hand bunching tightly into the sheets that covered her legs, she carefully began attempting to tend her own wounds. With light dabs she gently moved to soak up the blood. With her breath still strained, she looked warm, cheeks splashed red with fever. The headache that pounded painfully just compounded the difficulty she was already experiencing. She laughed a little shakily.
"It was just another scary dream...sorry, really..."
He swallowed deeply, trying to shove down the desires that wanted to overwhelm him. Not only was she not feeling well, she wasn't exactly sane at the moment. He knew the nightmares that had been plaguing her for months now had gotten worse tonight. As she started to stir, he prepared himself for whatever condition she'd wake up in.
The recognition in her gaze was a relief as her panic over the obvious wounds she'd inflicted upon herself slowly registered. "It's fine, really."
Hand reaching forward, he brushed the back of his hand against her forehead to see if her fever had reduced at all yet. Warmth and perspiration were both distinguishable by the slight touch. "You're still not doing very well. Are you hungry? Do you want some water?"
He wanted to get it in her while he could since, he didn't know how long it would be again until she seemed to be this lucid.
She shook her head, releasing the sheets to lightly cradle her head in one hand. Food didn't sound well at all right now, she didn't want to touch anything. She just felt exhausted, which made it difficult to think.
"Just...water, maybe... It's so hot.."
Dizzy and disorientated, she wondered what time it was, or if it was still the same day. Everything was jumbled together in a blurry mess. She couldn't even remember much of whatever had happened. The world had turned into a place she could barely recognize anymore.
"It's just..." Closing her eyes tiredly against her palm, her words trailed off incoherently. I don't know what to do anymore.
Giving a sad smile, he gently touched her head as he moved to go get her some water. "I know it's not easy on you. Having that happen like that in front of everyone."
Maybe it was actually a good thing that it had happened though. At least now the secret was out and maybe they wouldn't have to face this alone anymore. It had been going on for a long time now, and the way it had happened still hadn't shown the worst of it. Losing control, fearing that you would harm those you cared for. Zero understood better than anyone what she'd been going through.
Her hand automatically shot out as he began to take a step away from her, grasping the sleeve of his shirt.
"I changed my mind, please don't leave."
She was feeling miserable. If she closed her eyes then she had the feeling that the dreams would just once more consume her. When someone else was there, things were less scary. The fact that so many people had obviously seen did bother her. Curling up on herself, she drew her knees to her body, before self-consciously burying her head in them.
"When someone's mind is just..." She stopped, unable to say it. Not wanting to say it. Zero never said it to her, but she knew what he had to think. "I...I don't know if..."
The hand gripping him trembled violently. It was frightening, the fear she felt toward the subject enough to choke her. As far as she new nothing like this had ever happened to anyone. It didn't make sense, and not understanding frightened her to terrifying degree.
"What if there is nothing that can be done."
It was the question she dreaded the most. Because she feared the answer.
