i'm in haiti and using LiveJournal. how bizarre that in one of the poorest countries in the world, the only means of communication that i have is via the Internet. it makes some sense, though. technology is easier to install and more convenient. take, for example, the fact that instead of installing ground wires throughout haiti, cell phones have become the communication method of choice. it costs less in labor and is more convenient. imagine, you just have to buy a phone and minutes and you can talk to anybody at a moment's notice. imagine how amazing this would be if you had never had the means to talk to anybody without driving to see them and that's how it feels to a haitian.
anyhow, all is well here. i'm in seguin and enjoying myself. i've had my first emotional tests already - mostly having to do with having my bags checked at customs for medication imports. of course i brought meds into the country and i didn't want them to find them or else trouble would have surely ensued. so, i slyly only provided them with the bags without meds in them and explained what was in them in french, hoping that they could understand some of what i was saying. it all worked out. i survived. likewise, dealing w/ levern (the head of farsight) is a test in what i like to call "tough-biting." think about it and you'll understand.
i already have plenty of stories. i'll update later. still alive. go pistons! i wish i could watch.
