A/N: This? Was a really difficult episode.
It’s the first time since he left Stanford (probably the first time since he left for Stanford - exhale and relax and not worry about dying on the bus to California) Sam has felt that white hot slice of Blind Panic for his brother, has felt anything for his brother. Palo Alto seems a million miles and a hundred years away from this defunct mineshaft in the Colorado woods, warm breath on the back of his neck from a boy he’s not sure he can save (not sure if Dean‘s in the belly of the monster who just shambled by) and Sam wants his big brother back.
They stumble through the tunnels, something cold drips on the back of Sam’s neck and he hopes it’s water. The kid sniffles to his right, irritating him and he wants to tell him to knock it off, to push him away, it’s his family’s fault they’re in this mess in the first place but then they round the corner. And there’s Dean.
