The Wonderful World of the Workplace

One of the many people who we call a "boss" called us into the office today (us being me and my two coworkers.) He was on a tirade about how we "have to stop acting like children" and how "the lateness has to stop, being at the door two minutes before it's time to leave has to stop." This that and the other thing. Then he drops a whopper: "No more laughing."

What?

Laughing?

Against the rules?

Where the hell do I find myself working all of a sudden? Communist Russia? All right, first of all being late to work... I can see where he's coming from. But you have to be flexible some times. I offer to work through 15 minute breaks to make up for being three minutes late and "that just doesn't cut it" with them. They'd benefit from that. Being at the door "two minutes before it's time to leave" -- I don't do this, the other two guys do... however... this is the same boss who is supposed to say "You can leave now" to us at 5, but on Tuesday, he left 10 minutes early without telling anyone. He does this at least two times a week. If you're going to make a rule, you OF ALL PEOPLE should follow it. Right?

And the new laughing rule? I told him laughing is a human reaction to your surroundings. I said I'd laugh at the thought of him trying to put that in a disiplinary report. Laughing. I said "What's next? A ban on sneezing? God forbid I should catch an errant dust cloud with my nose and accidentally sneeze!"

What a joke.
