Bellydance Festival
Fun weekend. It was a leisurely drive down saturday morning. Stopped in Hattiesburg to eat at La Fiesta Brava (where the accent is on good taste) Checked into the hotel and then made it to the the Mary O'Keefe arts center. What a groovy site/ venue. Wonderful old theatre.
There were lots of vendors including the tipsy gypsy from Gw that gave me and E such good deals.
Surprised the organizer when I told her we need to 2 hours to get ready. She was like you can't start at 5 and be ready for a 6 pm show? NO... Especially not doing tribal fusion. (the problem was there was a dance meditation class on the stage from 3:30 to 5:00 with a no admittance sign. dressings rooms were only accessible through the stage area)
MissiHIPPY took over one of the 3 dressing rooms. I think we intimidated everyone who tried to come in because we were standing up and leaning over the table trying to put on our make up with our Asses up in the air.
Wekept our hair down in a Zoe/mardi love/ flapper kind of look with flowers and feathers. I thought my make up looked great I was quite pleased. I ended up using my brass celtic brooches on my belt which just looked incredible too.
I nailed the chor. except the standing up part. little bobble as I stepped on my fringe. I think we were one of the best acts.
Other hilights were Gypsy Chicks and Tribal Heart. Shamsi & Shelly. boundless fusion was nice too.Oh, the polynesian dance couple were incedible.
I finally got to wear my goth Bat shoes for the after party which ended up not happening. We got to the restaurant and the private room was still full. the manager said the group wasn't ready to leave yet and wasn't going to make them leave. one of the dancers waiting to get in said something like, look you are abou tto have 50 tired and hungry bders descending on you. We have the room booked. make it happend.
anyway, we left and realized that all the restaurants turn into pumpkins...er bars at 9ish. so I was all dressed up and no where to go. Finally said screw it, picked up a cheeseburger and went back to the motel.
