One more day, and I'm building an ark.

I realize that the version of Fay that has been hitting Alabama is much less devastating than the one that hit Florida, and, thereby, we are lucky. But, seriously -- ENOUGH!! It's been mostly raining for five days. Everything is soaked, and I believe the mosquitoes are planning to take over the state by the weekend. Yum.

In other bad news, John's back is giving him problems again, and he is "too busy" to go to a medical professional. So, he is being a big, growly bear about it, and I am picking up every inch of household slack -- I realize he can;t do his chores, but it's no fun having my non-work workload increase. And, as if this timing could be any worse, he is currently teaching, too, (which only happens 5-7 weeks per year, but -- when it does -- all else stops in his world) so he's been largely checked out of our domestic life anyway, and now he is also largely immobile and in pain, too.

I also found out that the contract workers at my job (a few of whom are doctoral students in related fields, but most of whom are relatives of the current and former management with undergrad degrees at best and no experience) make significantly more money than I do. I know the whole argument for "I get benefits, blah blah blah .." but it is almost $2 more per hour (based on my salary only) and they drive, sit in a room, and try to look engaged while I interview, analyze, etc. I feel undervalued, and I'm offended by the fact that their "qualifications" seem to be that they are the husbands, siblings, or step-children of one or more bosses. Hmph.

So, yes. It is a week of great disdain and discomfort for me. I am counting the moments til we go to Whole Foods and Macy's on Saturday.
