Grad school versus working in Africa

Sep 29, 2005 11:15

These days I find myself re-questioning things again...
For example, will I go to grad school even if I
do get accepted ?
I just am not sure I have the patience for those bullshit papers and the theory,
especially at my age.
Also...I am not so sure this plan of doing a non-paid internship, even
if I don't get accepted to grad school is a good idea.
If I were in my early 20s I would do it.
But now that I am in my 30s and have alot of experience under my belt,
I feel that non-paid internships are only worth it if your going
to grad school.
Besides, how can a place that works for social justice NOT give metro money to
its interns...where is the social justice there ?
ANYway...
I have been looking at doing work on an animal reservation in places like Namibia in southern Africa starting in January. Probably with elephants....
Or maybe getting into some kind of education development project, but certainly not with the Peace Corps or USAID etc etc...
In the end I am just tired of living in the USA where people are stressed, where the food is preserved and nobody knows how to slow down.
This is a killer society and from the look of things,
the quality of life here does not seem to be getting any better.
