Rm 508, early Friday evening

Apr 25, 2008 13:08

For some reason, Annette was nervous. She's been to plenty of dances; fancy, casual, everything in between. But tonight was different. She was ready, more ( Read more... )

Armed with a red corsage that matched his tie (because he wasn't completely hopeless, and thought it would offset the black nicely), A.J. pulled his pocketwatch out of his pocket again for another glance at the time. His hand was shaking slightly, nervous tension, over being too early or too late or too whatever, but he figured his timing was good and he knocked lightly on Annette's door.

Upon hearing the knock, Annette smoothed her hands over her gown and stepped over, before reaching up to make sure her hair was still swept up and perfect. Then she opened the door, a nervous smile fixated upon her face as she looked up at A.J. Of course, given her three inch heels, this task wasn't nearly as difficult. "Hello, A.J."

"Hello, Annette," A.J. greeted her back, with a small, nervous, crooked smile of his own. He had to admit, the dress looked even better than the one he had pictures when she told him what little she had about it. "You look...amazing..."

"Thank you," she said softly and stepped back so he could enter. Her eyes swept over him. "You look very nice yourself. Very handsome." And he did. She was enjoying the thought of being the girl upon his arm this evening.

"'Course I do," A.J. said, after stepping in and ducking his head against an increased grin. "Brought you a corsage," he pointed out, holding it up a little, starting to open the little plastic box that it came in to keep it from getting crushed.

"You did?" she asked, a touch surprised given their conversation the other day. "Thank you," Annette murmured, stepping closer so she could look at it.

"I hope red's okay?" A.J. asked, taking it so he could carefully put the corsage on Annette's wrist.

"It's beautiful," she said, feeling the strings of nervousness pull her as he put the corsage on her wrist. "I have a flower for you as well," Annette said, standing still and looking down at her wrist.

"Yeah?" A.J. asked, still smiling as he gently put the corsage in place and, when he did, making sure to complete the action by giving Annette a light kiss on the cheek.

Aw, he was so sweet. After the kiss to her cheek, she turned around and walked back to her desk and brought back with her his boutoniere. "Can I pin it on you?"

"Only," A.J. said with a slightly teasing grin, "if you promise not to stab me."

"You mean I can't puncture a lung?" she asked, grinning as she stepped in to pin it on his lapel. "Do you know that I heard once about something like that actually happening? On one of those true life stories on TV," Annette spoke while she worked to get his flower on just right. "The needle of her corsage went in too deep and throughout the evening, she couldn't understand why she was short on breath, feeling like she couldn't breathe. She had felt the prick of the needle, but it was adjusted and she felt nothing after that. She was taken to the hospital and she had a collasped lung. Weird, uh? There... it looks perfect."

"Errr..."

A.J. quickly, but subtly, went to check and make sure that the pin of his boutonnière had only gone through his jacket and nothing else.

"Man, yeah, that's pretty wild. See? Now aren't you glad I went with a wrist corsage?"

"Totally," she said, eyeing her flower again. "And it's perfect. That way we can dance close without fear of smushing it."

"Hopefully," A.J. commented with a smirk. "Don't underestimate my mad dancing skills, Annette."

"Yeah, I know, trust me. If there is one thing I know about you? It's your mad dancing skills, A.J. But," she held up her finger. "Don't you forget about mine."
