Glee Fic: We Know By Now To Say Enough (11/?)

Title: We Know By Now To Say Enough (11/?)
Rating: T/PG-13
Disclaimer: The title/lyrics used are from the song “The Secret’s In The Telling” by Dashboard Confessional.
Summary: Missing moments between Puck and Quinn during season two.

Puck is fully aware of how strange and kind of unrealistic this is; it’s kind of impossible for a guy like him to find any sort of attraction for a girl like Lauren. But she’s a bad ass and he can always appreciate that. Not only that, she’s way confident, unlike half the chicks at McKinley High.

And there’s probably some underlining Freudian thing with her resembling his mother in a way, but he’s ignoring that because right now he’s totally focused on making Lauren Zizes his valentine. And as hard as that may seem, it can’t be harder than making Quinn is, which is fucking impossible at this point.

Quinn knows she shouldn’t feel this way - it’s a far cry from the innocent Christian girl she claimed to be.

But that was before Noah Puckerman and last year and maternity clothes.

Now there’s a kind of comfort in it, being with one boy and making eyes at another. She wonders if it’s a kind of a control thing.

Probably.

Besides, this isn’t going to blow up in her face - it just can’t. Finn is no Puckerman and yet Sam can be equally oblivious as Finn, so there’s so little risk, really. Right?

From Quinn:
I think I can see why you like Berry - that pole comment was great.

From Noah Puckerman:
I know, right? If I weren’t going after Lauren, I’d probably tap that again.

From Quinn:
You’ve only made out with her, don’t even. And Lauren Zizes? Seriously? You’re kidding.

From Noah Puckerman:
Oh yeah? You think I am. Check out my song tomorrow.

From Quinn:
FAT BOTTOMED GIRLS? I ALMOST CRIED LAUGHING.

From Noah Puckerman:
It was from the heart!!!

From Quinn:
Right, and you practically giving me a lap dance was also from the heart?

From Noah Puckerman:
Okay, I got a little carried away there, but I just wanted to get my feelings across.

From Quinn:
Oh, I think they came in perfectly clear.

From Noah Puckerman:
I can practically hear you laughing from my house - shut up!!!

From Quinn:
LOL so not going to happen.

From Noah Puckerman:

It’s her worst nightmare: Sam is actually becoming observant.

He talks about her playing it cool and being ambitious and he wasn’t supposed to read her.

But it doesn’t mean anything - all he knows is that she’s calculating. So what? Even Finn figured that out and he’s probably the dimmest boy she’s ever known. And despite Sam being marginally smarter than Finn, it doesn’t make a difference.

She flirts with danger once again by eyeing another boy while being held by another.

He really shouldn’t find this as hot as he does, but seeing Lauren take down Santana is turning him on like no other. Maybe it’s a mix of seeing Santana getting the shit kicked out of her after seeing her try to throw down Quinn earlier this year and Lauren just being so kick ass.

All he knows for sure is that Lauren has to be his.

“Tomorrow afternoon in the auditorium,” she whispers seductively in Finn’s ear, her trademark bitch smirk on her face as she walks away with Queen Bitch Smirk she perfected so long ago and a sway to her hips that has guys gawking after.

But seriously, something in the back of her mind keeps telling her to stop what she’s doing right now and settle with Sam. And then she ends up thinking that she doesn’t want to settle - she’s Quinn Fabray and she deserves -

The best? Lima’s Finest aren’t exactly quality glue in the grand scheme of things, but right now in high school, it means the world.

She ignores Puck’s text about suggestions on how to woo Lauren because, seriously?

Oh, now he knows why he likes Lauren: she’s a cold, hard bitch, as JET sings.

As he’s making out with this nameless waitress, he wonders why he has to give a fuck about those kinds of girls when they never seem to give a fuck about him. But he supposes that’s what makes him a bad ass.

Sometimes he really wishes that label could just go away, even though he perpetuates it.

Puck actually likes Santana. It’s hard not to: she’s fierce, she’s sexy, and she can put two and two together. He respects her in a twisted way (he ignores the little voice in his head saying that hooking up with her and treating her like crap doesn’t really show that).

But when Quinn and Finn come into the choir room looking worse for wear, he realizes what Santana had orchestrated and appreciates the subtle genius she’s capable of.

Oh, Quinn’s gonna get it, he thinks with anger, amusement, and just a little bit of betrayal.

Quinn kind of wants to die: she feels like shit from the mono and her conscience berating her.

Why, why, why did she have to go looking for trouble? She has such a kind boyfriend - why fuck that up again? Is she really incapable of being satisfied with anyone, like Puck said?

Can she just catch a fucking break?

She’s lying in her bed, trying to think through the fog in her head, but not managing very well. She flops her arm to her nightstand to grab a tissue, but the box falls to the ground and out of her reach. She groans desperately, wishing her mother were here (why is she never around?).

“Here.”

It takes Quinn too long to realize oh hey, Puck managed to break into her house. She reaches out for the box and blows her nose into the tissue.

“Jesus Christ, you look like death.”

She tosses her tissue at him.

“Hey!”

“I’m already contemplating suicide, but that would require my getting out of bed, so.”

“Sorry, this sucks. I think Santana gave me mono also years ago.”

She grimaces. “You know.”

“Of course I do. I know you and Finn like the backs of my hands.” He takes a seat at the foot of her bed. “You really like Finn,” he states, thinking that this should hurt, but it doesn’t.

“Yes. No. Maybe. I don’t know.”

Puck rolls his eyes. “From personal experience, I know you only cheat on your boyfriend when you really like the other guy, so.”

She tries to laugh, but ends up coughing. “I never cheated on you.”

“No.”

“That must mean I really liked you.”

“I should hope so.”

“I definitely loved you.”

“That’s nice.”

“I’m kind of delirious,” she says with a giggle, “It’s being sick.”

“I know.”

“But at least I’m not trying to date a fat girl. Not that I’d date a girl.”

Puck rolls his eyes. “Lauren is a bigger bad ass than I am. She’s cool and I respect her, so I don’t appreciate your insulting her.”

“Oh whatever. It’s not like it’s gonna last.”

“You know what, have fun being sick,” Puck states, getting to his feet, annoyed, “I’ll see you when you get better. Take it easy.”

Quinn’s about to call him back into the room, but she’s getting sleepy and she figures sleeping is a better option right now. She can dissect Puck’s stupidity and unwanted kindness when she has her full mental capacities.

As Puck admires Rachel belting out “Firework” with the rest of the girls, all he can think is Quinn should be here for this.
