Guten tag! My internet connection has been fixed so I am back lj-ing, and the week before last I wasn't around because I was un-sunbathing in Tenerife. "un-sunbathing": staying out of the sunshine and staying indoors voraciously reading Margaret Atwood books. Specifically 'Alias Grace' and 'Lady Oracle' for those interested and yes, I thought they were both fantastic reads.
Oh sweet Lord, Helen Mirren was on Jonathan Ross on Friday night and she totally confirmed my view that she is so very delicious I could eat her with a spoon. Resplendent in a slinky silver satin dress and sparkly sequinned bolero, our lovely Dame was on adorable form; flirting and letting Ross carry her across the stage, making very funny double-entendres by accident ("could you give me one?"), talking about the "bling" she gets to wear as Elizabeth II, getting told she "makes him horny" by Ross, making hilarious gestures as she tried to explain what she liked to do with her husband (that's snorkelling btw *grins*) and actually tearing up with embarrassment when having to watch clips of herself as Elizabeth II for a new Channel 4 drama (which looks so many kinds of wonderful). So cute! *le sigh* It is so hard to believe she is 50. She's just so charismatic, modest, talented and sooo incredibly sexy! In keeping with what seems to be a Mirren-themed weekend, I got The Times today and she's splashed all over the Arts supplement talking about that new Channel 4 drama, complete with pics of her in costume with Hugh Dancy and Jeremy Irons, and then a free dvd of "Where Angels Fear to Tread" came with the paper too: result! :D
Last night, I went to see John Legend at the Manchester Apollo and bloody hell, he was good! Such a gorgeous voice, charming stage presence and so brilliant on piano. Very old-school soul. He played all my favourite songs of his album 'Get Lifted' (and the best of them, 'Ordinary People', sounds even more stunning live), a great cover of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and a song off his new album which I cannot wait to be released. All in all, a very good night and I bought a cd of live solo sessions he did in New York and my favourites off it are "Sun Comes Up", "Motherless Chile" and duetting with Kanye West on "All Falls Down".

P.S- Is anyone here willing to fix/spruce up my lj layout? Pretty please? I'm just sick of my beautiful Isabelle background being obscured by a mess of mismatched scrollbars and text. I could let you log in as me and tinker with it yourself if that is easier. I just want to look at pretty. *pouts*
