Brigit's Flame, Decmeber mini-contest week 2, "Heed Well These Borderlines of Mine" about 135 words, no warnings. Based on true events, and the quotes were actually said last Christmas, verbatim.
As an infant, the tests came back:
highly allergic to even trace amounts of nuts and milk.
So the one-year old eats lots of fruits and veggies,
specially packaged and dished out for Christmas dinner.
The terrible twos aren’t so bad as could be,
what with so few sweets processed wholly nut- and dairy-free.
By three years old he starts to realize,
as he looks longingly at the Christmas dessert table - “Not safe!” Mom warns.
He replies, “I’m just smelling,” as the fear fills his face --
so tangible its fingers reach out to all his gathered relatives.
His cousins start to conspire, and ask for Mommy’s guidance
how to make safe treats which are in full compliance.
Research and baking done, Christmas rolls around again -
A special table of treats, all for him to eat!
