001 [Voice] | Didn't expect this...

[Sam's voice carries a sharp edge of strain.]

Dean? Bobby? Ellen?

Damn it. This is definitely not Wyoming...

Anyone want to give me some idea where we are? Or what's going on here? What did that guy mean, drafted? To fight what, exactly? And how, without any weapons?

More importantly, how do we get out of here?

I don't want to do this ( Read more... )

We're in Econtra. Or Neocontra. A lot of people use the two interchangeably. Neocontra's been used since we moved here from the old complex about three months ago or so. And we're drafted to fight the Entropi, life-sucking balls of lightning. That's a very summed up version. There's a lot more detail involved, of course.

And as far as any of us know, there is no way out, though you may get randomly sent home or away or at least out of here. You never know.

The name's Otogi Ryuuji. Call me Otogi.

...Life sucking balls of what now?

Do you know if the people who are sent away are sent home, or are they just gone?

Sam Winchester. Call me Sam.

Lightning. I saw one up close and personal when they attacked. Second worst experience of my life...no, wait, third. Second was who I had to work with at the time.

It varies, actually. At one point, some people who were sent away were sent to fight the Entropi. Other people have been sent home, or so we're told, and once in a while, some people leave and come back. Sometimes they remember, sometimes they don't.

So, what did you do before coming here?

That's one of the stranger things I've heard this week... What did it do?

Any sort of pattern to it? Or does it seem random?

I was on a road trip with my brother. Definitely wasn't expecting this. What about you?

Killed a few people, resisted damn near every attempt we made to kill it until someone figured out how to do it, and then polluted the old compound past the ability of anyone to live in it, so we were brought here.

It's pretty random from what I've seen.

By profession, a game designer and a game player. Did a little dabbling in a few other things.

How? By electrocuting them? Or...you said it was a life-stealer. Is that what it did?

Polluted the...huh.

Guess this'll give you lots of fodder once you get out of here, huh?

Pretty much. It all happened pretty quickly. It showed up, some people died, panic ensued.

The old place was situated at Chernobyl. If you're from an Earth with any history sort of like mine, that should tell you some things.

Yup. Though all things considered, it would take a while to get it into a workable format. Not everyone is going to buy into "multiple people from multiple universes are brought together into a ragtag army to save the world" thing.

That's...not that surprising actually.

Chernobyl? Shit. Of all the places to stick people when there are...

Wait. An Earth? Multiple universes? You're joking, right?

I think on this world, everything that happened there was a really long time ago. There was weird rain there that could make people sick, though.

Nope. I can't even count how many different universes are here. Some are similar to each other, but some are very, very different. I know people who are from a world very much like mine, but theirs are different in some ways. And there's a world some people are from that's really like mine...only the people there are from about nine, ten years in the future, from my point of view.

Then there's the non-humans you'll see. Hedgehogs, bats, various other things.

You might also see some animated plushies. Don't worry, they don't bite. Mostly.

Radiation does nasty things. Not to mention the sort of creatures that might be drawn to something like that...

Okay, I take it back. This is officially the weirdest shit I've heard all week.

And that's saying something...

You haven't seen anything yet. Not even close.

Not to mention, you should consider yourself lucky that you didn't get here two weeks ago, when just about every male who was past puberty got hit with the world's worst case of lust.

Not here, no. I've got more than a passing acquaintance with the weird, though.

...Do I even want to know?

You'll get to know weird here very intimately. I've been here about nine or ten months and I've mostly stopped being bothered by anything.

Just what I said. A goddess had some sort of accident with a love potion, it blew up, and for a week just about anything that was male had uncontrollable lust.

I was able to deal with it better than most people, thankfully.

Well, I'm not resigning myself to sticking around just yet. I don't have the time to play soldier...

A goddess, huh? That's unfortunate.

Until there's some way to leave, there's not a lot of options. I've found something to fight for here myself. Or someone, to be accurate. I'll go through Hell if I have to in order to stay with Fubuki.

There's a few of them around here.

I already have something to fight for. I'm not willing to give up on that because someone's decided I have to fight for them, too.

...Not the kind that take human sacrifices, I hope.
