i always come home with the misconception that my visit will be relaxing.  i have been proven wrong so many times that i should know by now, but i have somehow failed to learn my lesson.  rather than just being able to enjoy myself, i am forced to meet quotas with people as to how much time i spend with them.  yes, because it is really the *amount ( Read more... )

i fly in on monday the 14th, but i have to go to champaign for a few days. i'll probably be up on thursday the 17th.

when do you leave for your adventure?

i'm not good with movie suggestions; all i have here are my dvds and i end up watching the same movies over and over again. and i'm sure you've seen most of them before. as for books, i always have a few good ones in mind, but i hesitate to make recommendations, because then people feel obligated to read them. or at least pretend that they did. i'd have to know what sort of book you were looking for, i guess.

i return to chicago from the fabulousness that is central il on the 13th and fly on the 27th. we'll have a solid 10 days scowl at each other and make snide comments.

as for books...hmmm...i don't really know. i am not picky, and i won't feel obligated. my mom always wants really happy but heart-felt nonfiction, which is not particularly realistic. i'm easy to please, but i'm also more picking on u than pressuring u, just so u know.

ok, without commentary from me, here are two of my favorite books as recommendations:

a heartbreaking work of staggering genius by dave eggers

and

a supposedly fun thing i'll never do again by david foster wallace

because:

a) both of these guys spent some of their lives in champaign.

and

b) we have to support contemporary fiction, because it isn't, you know, taught in high schools, or whatever.
