Jaina had tried. She really had. But then there had been too many words she didn't know and never cared to, and her eyes had started to glaze over, and she'd seriously tried figuring out how to take out her phone to keep her entertained so she'd stay awake without letting John know what she was doing, and wow.

"That was... a lecture." She was trying to be nice. Since she'd prograssed past buh-buh-buh and all.

"That mean you're gonna help me write the paper on it later?" John teased.

"I'm pretty sure I can help with words like 'and' and 'the,'" she told him. "You go to these voluntarily?"

"Well, it's not like I don't get credit for going," he pointed out. "We can always hit up the math department later if you want to see some real geeks in action."

"While I would probably understand that better, I think I might pass on that," Jaina said quickly. "I feel like I should take something apart just to normalize my brain."

"How about Mitch's car?" John suggested. "You could play auto mechanic and make it fly."

"That would take too long. I'd have to pretty much create my own repulsors since you don't have them here. I should stick to adding propulsion," she decided.

John laughed at that, "He won't complain."

"Don't put these ideas in my head. I'll be the one in trouble when he starts getting tickets," she smiled.

"They're good ideas," he argued. "Mitch would probably even help you. Not that he'd have any clue what you were doing."

"He can hand me tools. I'd really rather not blow up his car because he didn't have a clue what I was doing."

"Hey, can't blame a guy for not being from outer space. Besides, maybe he'll learn fast."

"Are you going to help?" she wondered, looking up at him.

[missed_the_gate]

"Help like I help or like real people help?" John wondered.

[solo_sword]

"Help hand over tools," she clarified. She knew how this went.

[missed_the_gate]

"Do I have to hand over the right tools?" John took special pleasure in leaning around looking pretty while other people worked.
