I just can't describe how 1950s our house is on these summer nights.
The screen doors all that separates us from the great outdoors, one at either end of the house.
The nightsounds coming in.
Our neutral paint colors and the deep cherry wood paneling and a dog asleep just inside the back door.
I'm in my room, lights ablaze, windows and blinds shut, making financial spreadsheets on the computer, trying to convince myself that monetary ruin is not, in fact, imminent. I decide that I need Ben & Jerry's, so I open my heavy cherrywood door and step out - into another decade, the sounds of evening and the sun still not completely vanished and the air fresh and sweet singing around us.
The kids are watching a movie in the living room and have all the lights off, so I dance through the kitchen trying not to step on anything unexpected.
this is life,
