Fanime 2012

May 28, 2012 10:24

So Fanime was pretty much a win. I went as Donna Noble, and Kerry came with as Rose Tyler (she was mildly upset that she felt she ended up looking more like a Jenny, but considering she got actually identified as Rose and never misidentified, I think it turned out fine). And although we missed all but the stragglers of the Wholock gathering, we got some pretty amazing photos and met up with some pretty cool folks. All of my pics are on facebook now, but here's one of my favorites (since I was dumb enough not to bring a real camera other than my phone and I'm kind of shit as a photographer most of them didn't come out as well as this one.)

A Jenny, a Rose, and a Donna!

Although I should mention I got mistaken for an Amy more than once, especially at the Black and White ball where I spent most of the evening dacing with an 11, which was fair, considering.

Kerry and I were in the registration line so long that after we got pictures with the remaining Wholock folks it was time for lunch, but our afternoon and evening were pretty packed. We watched AMVs, and then went to a room showing Avatar Abriged (which finally might be the incentive Kerry needed to watch all the bits of that series she missed) and then a thorough perusal of Artists Alley and the dealer room. If I had bought every print I loved there I wold not only be flat broke, but be completely out of wall space twice over. As it is, I picked out a set of Legend of Korra buttons to be my souvenir this year, and found a brilliant belated birthday present for my brother (it's his fault for not telling me what he wanted when I started bugging him about it at the beginning of the month).

We also decided to hit up the karaoke room for a bit, but the wait time to sing was super long (as in HOURS long) so we just sat back and enjoyed for a bit. I have to admit it was a bit painful: I can count the singers I genuinely enjoyed in the time we were there on one hand. But we got to sing along to the pokemon theme, Circle of LIfe from Lion King and Still Alive, so not a total loss.

Kerry thought the line for the Black and White ball would be ridiculously long, so initially we went to the smaller dance within the convention center itself, but I decided I'd brought a nice dress, dammit, and I wanted to dance some ballroom, so I kind of strong-armed Kerry into going to that. It turns out Kerry didn't mind so much after all since (after a few false starts in finding where the ball was being held) the line was pretty much nonexistant and the company was great. We got in, had some initial trouble finding a place to park ourselves, but then we saw an 11 and pretty much ran up to him and said "Doctor! Help us!" and then between him and his friend had guaranteed dance partners for the evening, and 11 wasn't too bad considering how new the steps were to him. Also Kerry ran into some friends from her old highschool and we had a lovely time being fannish and dorky. Good times were had by all.

We didn't leave the ball until midnight (hee! It's like we were Cinderella! ) and I slept very, very well last night. Now to figure out what I'll be wearing next year...
